No problemo! On a side note, I keep staring at the picture of your truck...I really like it! I think I'd be scared if I saw you in my rear view mirror though...your truck standing still looks like it wants to run something over!

a friend of mine works at a car stereo store and said he would give me a discount to do it, but i am thinking about trying my hand at it. I have done everything else this truck needed on my own, why stop now?

I may have someone else build the box but that would probably be it

i posted and then it disappeared...

my friend works at a car audio store and said he would give me a discount on installation, but i have done everything else on this truck by myself, so why stop now. I think it would be good to know how to do it myself.

I may have him build the box for me, but thats about it

here is the last picture. usually i go for original cars and trucks but this truck is a toy, it has a ton of random options, like the bed lift and onboard air compressor. The engine should go in it this weekend. it will be the first time this has had an engine in 15 years...

Its not hard, just requires attention to detail. I'm 39 and did my first install some *cough* 20+ years ago *cough*.

With your single cab truck, a 5ch amp and single dual voice coil 8 or 10 will greatly simplify things. A 12 is a tight squeeze but if you really want it it can be done. A 5ch amp from a reputable manufacturer will run just fine. Two amps take up more space and introduce more points of failure, but these are minor arguments if you take your time and install them properly.
As far as rear speakers are concerned, again if you want them cool but they are'nt really necessary. When you talk to others, or go to a concert all sound is in front of you. Everything else is reflection. You can have that naturally by eliminating rear speakers or attempt to reproduce it with a set of rear speakers. If you do run rear speakers, I would not waste the coin on a set of componenets muffled by your seats. Nor would I place the rear tweeters so close to my head when my fronts are much farther away. It will pull the sound stage too far rearward. A good set of coaxles in the rear w/ your components up front will sound awesome.

Re: need audio help/suggestions

kakax, i have actually been looking at in-dash dvd recievers, but it would have to be single DIN.

I have been looking at the Clarion VZ400 and the Kenwood Excelon KVT-696 both refurbished to save some money.

also, I have never heard of Jensen as a brand, if anyone has experience with them id like to hear it.

any other suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,

Austin

Re: need audio help/suggestions

I've never owned one myself, but I consider Jensen to be like an auction type brand and I'd personally stay away from it. When going with a retracting screen, I'd keep with the name brands like Kenwood or Pioneer in hopes it'll last as long as you need it to. Clarion is a decent brand too, but I've never looked into their full screen monitors.

Re: need audio help/suggestions

jensen has been around longer than most..
every car out there in a highschool parking lot in the 70-80's had jensen audio in their ride

Re: need audio help/suggestions

if i may ive been in car audio for awile and have run alot but by far im a huge fan of alpine and kicker. im currently running alpine type s components with a small 100w amp and it rocks. if you choose to run speakers and subs 12" sub you could just run a 4 channel amp, i listen to all types of music and with the amount of airspace if you wanna rock it will rock. if you by chance live near a best buy go in and you can listen to both on an amp and not on one and as far as their installers you can have it done their plus they are insured just in case

Re: need audio help/suggestions

if your radio doesnt have preouts you may want to get a new one or you will have to run a stepdown

Re: need audio help/suggestions

for the time being, my plan is to keep the existing 4 speakers in the cab and simply wire them into an amp. also install two speakers and possibly a sub(all marine grade) in the bed with a second amp powering them. I will have the remote turn on wires(or what ever its called that tells the amp when to turn on and off) with toggle switches on them so ill be able to specify whether i want the sound in the cab, in the bed, or both. at the same time i will install a new head unit, i am leaning towards a single din with a fold away screen to power them.

eventually i will upgrade the speakers and possibly put a small sub or two, but for now thats the plan...

Re: need audio help/suggestions

I would be doing the install. my experience level is close to zero..., but i can usually figure things out pretty quickly and a few of my dads friends know a hell of a lot about wiring and could help me if i get stuck.

my machine shop/fabrication experience is pretty high though. i just usually dont mess with electrical stuff, but now is my time to learn...

Re: need audio help/suggestions

the setup i am considering is the following:

the bed:
WEST MARINE Compact Waterproof Box Speakers
JL AUDIO M101B5 Marine Subwoofer Classic Grill, 10", White
and i have not decided on the amp because i dont know the rms values for the speakers yet.

the cab:
Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-4

i am still deciding on the head unit

any comments/suggestions are appreciated

Re: need audio help/suggestions

pioneer has a great equalizer to control subs mids and highs. another great deck especially for the price it jvc KDHDR70 its got built in hd radio, sub preouts, and you can change color of screen and buttons to match interior and at 159 is not bad

54chevytruck 07-22-2011 11:40 PM

Re: need audio help/suggestions

for the head unit, i am leaning towards a full screen with dvd capabiities

83highsierra 07-23-2011 07:25 AM

Re: need audio help/suggestions

go for this pioneer you cantbeat the price at 350 pioneer AVH-P2300DVD
im currently running the older version in one of my cars it has a heck of an EQ and you can wire up a switch for dvd capability(on all really) idk what your state law is but here in KY you cant have a video playing in view of driver while vehicle is moving

Re: need audio help/suggestions

why the marine gear, it's a truck not a boat..

54chevytruck 07-25-2011 01:02 AM

Re: need audio help/suggestions

i figured the marine gear would work the best being in the bed where it will be exposed to the elements
