i think the motor swap got popular by guys who make that extra step to try something different! they arent to expensive but if your gonna swap the u might as well go with a 6.0! i personally think computerized motors are to much of a problem. my 454 with turbo350 gets 14-18mpg and i turn over heavvyyy 22s! nothing like a good ol carb.

The engines are dependable for thousands of miles.

I've raced plenty of late model 5.3's. Smoked everyone of them. :metal: ZZ4 has some torque. Now a 6.0 or 6.2 would run side by side with me, if not pull away with FI. You can convert either to carb. Look at www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com for intakes and spark control systems.

Let's not forget that any modern truck weighs about 1,000 to 2,000 lbs more than our trucks do.

Power-to-weight is king. A 5.3 in square would outrun a 5.3 in a current truck, no doubt

Is there a book or a complete article that explains in detail of what is needed and how its done? Very curious about this setup.

There is an LSx swap subforum here. Ton of good info. At least one book out on the subject, search amazon for it because I can't remember the title.

Freiburger @ Hot Rod mag did an LS6 swap into a '74 C10, and did a writeup on it.

Hell, yeah! They can be stroked to 426 cubes and make massive power. The square port heads flat-out flow!

pumpgas left out my favorite combo: 4.125" bore x 4.00" stroke for 427 cubes of butt-puckering power!!!
