I had to reiterate on how freaking AWESOME this Edelbrock 1407 w/ electric choke is! Last night after installing it on my mid 70's 454 I thought this is to good to be true! I thought yeah sure, tomorrow it will run like crap just like it did with the Quadrajet but I got home from work, fired it up and WoooHooo it runs great!!! It's like driving a new truck! Like I said, I've given Quadrajets and Holleys many chances to prove themselves but nothing so far compares to the mighty Edelbrock 1407!

Throughout the years I've owned many Quadrajets, Holleys and Thermoquads but only two Edelbrocks! My first Edelbrock experience was using an 850cfm on my 440 Moho, I tried many different Holleys on the 440 but could never get it dialed in until I put the Edelbrock 850 on it, it ran perfect! My 2nd Edelbrock experience was today, I had a Quadrajet on my mid 70's 454 and like the 440 I just couldn't get it to run right, I lacked power, throttle response and fuel mileage! I decided to look on Craigslist for another Quadrajet or Holley but found an Edelbrock Performer 1407, the guy said it had been sitting for 5 years but he only wanted $100 so I bought it anyways and I'm damn glad I did! After buying a $15 Mr. Gasket squarebore to spreadbore adapter I put the 1407 on, bolted it down, hooked up the gas line, plugged two vacuum ports and it fired up and the old 454 ran perfect!!!, LOL no kidding, I'm so stoked! I now have power, throttle response and good fuel mileage so that's why I say Vic Jr. Edelbrock for President!!! Edelbrock Performers will be the ONLY carburetor I will ever buy for any of my future vehicles and I hope some of you out there will use this thread as a learning experience and dump your Quadrajets and Holleys and bolt on a far superior carburetor, the Edelbrock Performer!!!

Have a demon modified holley 750 on mine, cost me $75 on Craigslist lol I just added holley needle valves and tuned it on the truck and haven't touched it in years. The guy I bought it from couldn't keep the floats adjusted with his fuel pump and it flooded a lot. His misfortune for not using a regulator and my gain lol.

Barry grant has thier version of the carter four barrel now too

They are stupid simple from what I hear. But so big it's hard to run one under a hood

Yah I also hear that they meter fuel with a cam inside kinda like a holley accelerator pump. A lot of lore behind them carbs. At least our hoods are tall enough to run them
