Re: Rear differential oil
mine didnt have a drain hole. Had to just crack the cover and let it drain.
The fill hole is the square bolt on the back. I had to use the extension hose/straw thing to get it filled. |

If the square plug in the back is about halfway up, that is the fill. |

Re: Rear differential oil
Got it all done. I just backed out the bolts a bit and then gently used a flathead screw driver at the bottom to open it up just enough for the fluid to drain, without hurting the gasket.
Boy, this 3/4 ton has one big rear end. Felt like I was working on Jennifer Lopez back there lmao. It took all but one quart of that gallon jug. Thanks for the tip for the pump, Gary. I got one at Autozone, and it made of a very clean job Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Rear differential oil
This video of a truck driving with a clear diff cover is what made me want to change my fluid ASAP. Glad I did. That old fluid was thick and nasty

Re: Rear differential oil
My 1972 C/20 has a Dana 60 rear with posi in it and 3.75 quartz filled it.
This unit has floating rear axle, which require you to jack up a side to let some oil run down the tubes and lubricate the wheel bearings. Hopefully this helps... I thought this info would be easy to find, but I guess not all Dana 60s are the same... |
Re: Rear differential oil
^^^ sorry to confuse...
2.75 was the actual amount of quartz needed. |

That would be me! I just took it off and chunked it in the trash too! The thing kept leaking. It had cracked and was dripping. I put almost 2 bottles in it before it started coming out the hole. |
