Re: Brake Lines

If you don't change the crossmember all you have to do is fabricate some little brackets to secure the transition from the metal brake line to brake hose from the caliper. I have a 68 and used lines from finelinesinc for a 72 model.

Brake lines came today, no pictures or instructions. I will take pictures of the frame and lines. Need to figure out how to run the lines.

What was the total cost and what did you get? IE front only, rear only, or front and rear?

I got them from Finelines, the cost at first was $73 with shipping, but the hold up was they had to adjust the shipping cost for the west coast so it went to $78 Its called the Disc brake conversion kit. I needed the lines to connect to the proportation valve, so they connect at the uninos for the front and rear, I guess. Not complete front and rear lines.

Did anyone else have to move headers or exhaust to install the prebent brakelines? Looks like thats what im going to have to do.

Great picture TCB-1!! If you look at this picture, you can see that TCB-1 used ONLY one of the front brake line ports. If you run a 3/16 line from the prop valve to the T located just inside the L.F. wheel that will supply the front disc brakes just fine. The other line 1/4" goes to the back.
do not be afraid of the infamous DOUBLE FLARE. It just takes a bit of practice. you can do this!!! I have a flaring kit I bought from Matco, and hated doing this until I did my last car. I made up my mind that I was doing it, and doing it well. Now it is just like scratching my elbow. Practice makes perfect. If you send me an email I will send you pics of my 69 with power disc brakes. They work, I double flared em, and it anit hard

VDOG, if you buy a line kit for the prop valve from Master Power Brakes, it will bolt to the valve with a little wiggeling. I really like those guys, and ask for Pat when you call . send me am email, or teach me how to post a pice and I'll show you my truck

Of course its an after thought now. I picked up an MC, prop and booster for $65 a couple of weeks ago. Got my old lines off.

The flaring tool you have is hydrallic im assuming.

Re: Brake Lines

my flaring tool is a plain old manual flaring tool. It does a good job on steel lines, but Stainless is a good bit tougher

Ok here goes. There might be pics, and there might not

I painted my master cylinder with the paint in the picture. I put 2 coats on it, letting it dry for 24 hours in between. Used a fom brush. Did this on my last car and it looked great 3 yrs later

I have see those mounts. CPP has left, right, and under the MC mounts. which ever way you can get it to work. Now I need brackets for the booster.

Looking at ths setup, theres line unions from the prop valve down the the cross member. My 69 has a union for the front brakes only to reach the left and right wheels. The rear line goes down, and behind the crossmember to the passenger side of the inner frame and unions there. I had to take off my headers to install these. And they still dont line up correct. Is there more bending I should be doing?

After removing the headers and driverside shock this is what I have. Now where is the shipping bend?

Re: Brake Lines

vdog, I am going to put my truck up in the air, and shoot a couple of pics of my brake lines. I think from what I see, one of the new lines is pointing towards the radiator. That one is for the rear brakes. the other is for the front.
NOW, shoot a couple of pics of the new master cylinder, and the new prop valve. I will rack my truck in a few minutes, and get back to you this afternoon.

The lines you have are for power brakes like mine. Here's my setup. I had to reposition the prop valve because I didn't use their prop valve.

The only shipping bend is the line for the rear brakes that run along the frame to the back by the gas tank and connect to the brake hose.

I have to get brackets for the booster, but from looking at your pictures I see something that I need to do. The horseshoe bend for both sit on top of the frame, like in your second picture.

Ok did the Finelines thing, talk to bill again. From the first picture you see the square bend was not next to the frame, and I did not have a shipping bend.
So I bent the square toward the frame and that solved my problem.
