OK guys, I appreciate all the ideas and great pics of your engine bays. Here is what I finally ended up with.

My 72 is going to be a simple day 2 sort of look. Factory appearing with old MT valve covers. Orange paint on the motor, etc.

Re: Stock appearing engine bays...
I know alot of vendors support this site and the products they sell are very good.
I also know of a gentleman who sells the under hood detail parts for corvette restorers. he has advertised in the National Corvette restorers society periodical magazine for many years so his reputation is very very good. his web site is DrRebuild. His underhood detail parts for corvettes are really good and actually quite resonable in cost. he somehow has access to the blueprints for these underhood parts and contacts the origonal vendors who sold to GM at the time....if they are still in business and contracts with them to supply him with the parts. they are identical to the origonal parts and very good quality. I'm pretty anal or OCD/pedantic about the details of my truck and he soothes my anxiety regularly. DrRebuild Until we get a magazine that is as good as this website, I would also recommend other vendors who advertise in the NCRS magazine. they dont last very long selling junk in that magazine so just about all the vendors are good and sell the little detail stuff Its would be a very good investment to subscribe to the NCRS just to get the magazine full of vendors.. Heavy duty truck equals hi performance corvette, check out his site to get an idea of whats out there...if you got the fever like i do. and you know you do Dr Rebuild and the NCRS |

Here is mine, I like the stock look under the hood also. I wasn't able to find black plug wires with the straight plug boots until after I took this pic.

Like many of you, there's nothing quite like the looks of original engine bay (especially MOPAR HA!). I remember the first time a flawless factory engine bay really stuck, maybe 35 years ago. Couldn't tell you the vehicle, perhaps a 71 Caprice. Since that time it became a VERY  long term goal. |
