I have experienced many of these things myself. These days people do what is best for them. It is what is taught to the mass. Never surprised anymore with any action of a person. There are no set rules anymore on anything, always an exception.

I would be waiting anyway because they have the right of way. But I do hate sitting at that stop with that car approaching from the left making that left without using their signal. Since they face me as they're making their turn, I always point where they're going with a surprised look and say, "That's what you were doing?", and give a "gotcha" thumbs up.

I figure it's up to each individual who has not slumped into this degenerative state of being to give in, not join that crowd, lead by example. I also go do what I can to make people aware of their senselessness. Got to stop that buck from passing

its all the DEfensive driving shtick. people need to drive OFfensively, and not offensively in the offending definition, offensively in the opposite of defense.

and that doesnt even mean to barge around like the road is yours. what i mean by it, the way i told my daughters and the way i drive myself is that YOU are responsible for making sure you dont end up dead because someone else was stupid. leave yourself and "out" in traffic and use it with prejudice if someone does something idiotic. know the rules for intersections and be ready to change those rules as suited for someone doing something stupid. know where you are going, if you are going around a long corner look between the trees as far as you can see ahead because thats where you can do something about your trajectory and speed, certainly not the 20 ft in front of you that most people look. go to a parking lot and find the limits of your tires, your brakes, your cornering, to know the capability of your car as well as you can.

people want to say that is driving defensively but its not, not by todays current definition. defensive driving today is more about eddying around on the road, using small avoidance moves any time someone breaks your protective cordon you have around your car. stabbing brake and then accelerator in a herky jerky chinese dragon-esque motion even on the highway. gripping the wheel and swerving around in everyone elses way like no one else exists. using the lane detection/obstacle detection/automatic braking features so you can surf the internet freely while steering with one hand. thats the current defensive driving lessons.

did you know that texting and driving kills more teenagers than any other cause? that it has so many names, distracted driving, inattentive driving, reckless endangerment, that its impossible to put them all together as a single statistic. i would guess if they had a "texting and driving" only ticket that it would skyrocket in count to the highest killer of any age group.

driving can be pleasurable but its also piloting (at least) 2 tons of steel.

I remember teaching my daughter to drive. I asked her what a red light means?

She said that it means to stop.

I said no. It means nothing. Always watch the other guy. Some people don't play by the rules.

Wouldn't you know it, maybe 5 minutes later some idiot in a minivan ran a stop sign right in front of us at about 45 mph and she had to slam on the brakes hard to avoid hitting him. Point made.

She's been driving for 16 years now and never had an accident. Although I had a small accident in my shorts when she hit those brakes.

EXACTLY THIS!!! I was sitting at a stop the other day in Auburn when the light turned green for me--Bell Rd and 49. (If anybody local knows this spot) As usual I was waiting for a slight moment as the moron behind started honking his horn for me to go. Maybe 2 seconds had passed as (just as you described) another moron blows the red at about 50. Gave the guy behind me a your number 1 motion, then I drove off. Don't know what he thought after see that.

In today's world traffic signs, lights and the like are a mere suggestion. We used to say in 'Carolina red means three more can go.

.

Gave the "your number 1" motion....LOL

I tend to wave that around when necessary as well as use my horn on occasion when somebody does something stupid.

When I first started driving my dad was riding with me when I buzzed on through a green light. He commented on how I buzzed on through without caution. I said, "I had a green light". He said, "That won't matter if you're dead". I'm glad I learned so much from him that I could teach my kids.

Here are a couple "whys?". Why do fuel prices always end with .9, such as $2.29.9 instead of $2.30? And why are advertised prices listed like $2,999.99 and not just $3,000? am I supposed to be dumb enough to think one is cheaper than the other

Great questions, Tim..... but you already know the answers (hint -- both answers are pretty much the same).

It's because people, even smart guys like us, are expected to be that dumb. Because psychologically, our lizard brains see a smaller (OK, not much smaller) number and we think it must be cheaper.

It's because you get free shipping on orders of $3000.00 or more.

Re: Just WHY?!?

Private seller's price $10,000.00

Dealer's price $9,999.99

Ok, seems cheaper. One is 5 digits, the other is 4. But if you add all the numbers in $10,000.00 together you only get 1 and if you add the numbers up in $9,999.99 you get 54

I did notice in the "Gas Prices" thread people were calling out prices like $3.15, just a straight up number. I wonder on each price given if it was actually $3.14.9 or $3.16. In my mind they meant $3.14.9 but I wonder if the psychology is working on them and the sign posted actually reads $315.9. The fuel price one is so absurd and been going on since long before any fuel supply issues, when prices were 1/10 what they are now. I guess forever. There is no such thing as 1/10th of a cent. The smallest coin in the USA has always been a penny. A penny is almost worthless, yet they use 1/10 of one and that is supposed to matter to us. Is this an example of how gullible the oil industry thinks customers are. Kind of seems that way to me. And maybe they're right

The 9/10's of a cent has always baffled me and it's just at gas stations.

It makes me want to pump exactly one gallon and ask for 1/10's of a cent change. Whataya you gonna do now Mr. big oil company? That's the price. There's a sign right outside that says so and I want my 1/10th of a cent.

Exactly! I don't think the pumps even register tenths of cents anymore.

It's like the Superman movie with Richard Pryor or Office Space where they take all the bits left over and put it into a hidden acct.

You jogged my memory. They did have fractions on the pumps back when they had the rolling numbers before digital. I hadn't thought of that in years.

I don't know why they even bother with fractions these days when they just raise the price 20 cents a day. What's the point?

Ok another serious question. Why does my phone say I have service when it doesn’t? Has anyone noticed this? Here is me with 4 bars and can’t get my video to play. This is a constant thing. I know it’s the service (not the Apple or Rumble) because as soon as I connect to wifi it works fine. I just wish it would be honest and tell me if I have bad service.

This thread is for posting questions.

Any question will do.

Serious, silly, sarcastic, or sincere.

I will start with a serious question (yet kind of funny). I truly want to know.

Why do people WALK on the street when there is a perfectly nice sidewalk? I am not exaggerating, I see this all the time. Probably 6 times in the last 2 months. I understand for serious joggers it may be easier on the joints. I am talking about WALKERS. I really would like to understand the benefit.

Attachment 2265857

They do that so if you hit them and they live they can sue the crap out of you because of their stupidity. That crap happens around here also.

Politics brought in, thread reported, thread closed.

Please review the sticky post in this area. I believe it is titled “Here we go again”
In a recent post the staff was called out for not moderating hot topics the same across the board or something similar. We can not allow that to happen :). Working hard to keep things fair. Review the sticky as I should be doing more than locking it.

Thanks!
