Well, luckily the rest of the truck around it will hopefully turn out even nicer!!! Hopefully he'll snap me another pic once he loads it up - he'll be delivering it to WFO tomorrow.

Your fuel tank looks sharp! Did you do any thing special with the steering box? I'm going to get a reman for my 76 but was curious if there is an upgrade for these things or not?

We used a 2WD version of the AGR Super Box 2 - which has a quicker turning ratio (less turns lock-to-lock). They also make a 4WD version, but we had to go with the 2WD due to the cross-over steering set-up WFO used on my truck.

These boxes are a nice step-up from the stock ones & even include a billet top plate. There are also companies that can rebuild a stock one & change the ratio's, but I don't know of any off hand.

whats the advantage of the quicker steering ? im geting ready to purchase a reman 2wd box and crossover along with an 8" lift and 37's...i just want it to track straight down the highway....what do you think ?.....thanx :metal:

The quicker steering basically just equates to less turning effort - i.e. less distance to turn the steering wheel to make the same turn. The cross-over steering will make a big difference with that lift & those tires.

Make sure that you get a steering box brace also - we got one from Off Road Designs - you'll need it more than me as my tires are only 33" tall.

Well, Mario got side-tracked so the tank didn't get delivered today dang it... He says he'll try to get up there Monday. Keven's most likely going to build a temporary tank though to run the engine off of so we don't have to risk messing up the real tank putting it in & pulling it back out for disassembly.

Keven had a busy week so didn't get much of anything done on my truck. He did work a bit on the intake plumbing again, but now has to wait for another aluminum elbow to arrive before he can try to button it up. He's really pushing to try & get it running soon so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Ok, here's a shot of the tank after drying - it did flatten out pretty nicely & matches the rest of the stuff on the truck. Hopefully he'll get it up to WFO Monday.

How much of a gain will that intake give you? Sure looks nice tho!!!

Well, in all honesty the only gains you'll see from that particular intake is in the higher RPM range... I'll actually lose a little torque down low, but the motor makes plenty & with a manual & 4.10 gearing it'll still respond great on the street! It was a sacrifice I was willing to make to get the engine bay just like I wanted it. Plus that intake is great for forced induction in case I ever get the itch to step up in that direction.

Did get an email from Keven today - it's looking like he's got to complete a job this week on another customer's Jeep to get it ready for the King of Hammers race coming up...

Mario did manage to get the tank dropped off by the shop, so they have it wrapped up & safely tucked away for now.

Probably won't have any updated again until next week, but hopefully we'll be getting close to that elusive first start-up!!!!!

just spent the last couple days reading the entire thread... every single word. WOW.... just WOW. It takes pioneers like you to make the jobs and decisions for the rest of us a little easier. Thanks for the build thread. Anxiously awaiting to see it in all it's glory. Updated time table of completion?

As for completion date - have nothing concrete, just hoping that it's done prior to November so I have a shot to get it into SEMA like I was asked to last year....

At the very least though, the truck will surely be a "one of a kind". This week should see some additional progress so stay tuned for pics!

I'm curious, maybe I misse it in the thread. Did you have your fuel tank coated with anything before Mario painted it? I just got some original saddle tanks for my Longhorn and i'm contemplating cutting an end off them and trying to blast them so they can be coated. I'm just not sure what the best coating would be. Maybe I should leave well enough alone? :lol:

Yep, sure did. They were sent out to a local radiator shop & they coated the inside - it's the same one that WFO uses for all the tanks they build. I am not sure of a brand name or anything, but would assume that most radiator shops would be familiar with the products.

Was just going to say that......our local rad shop here does the insides of my buddies custom motorcycle tanks and has had great luck with the product.

WFO has never had an issue with their tanks using it & they've built a lot of 'em over the years. Kinda wanted my tank made of stainless, but they convinced me to go this route.

No updates so far unfortunately, but my buddy that was working with me over here in Afghanistan did stop by the shop while he was doing his cross-country drive to check out the truck & snapped a few shots.

Keven's got the aluminum tubing ordered so he can knock out the intake pretty soon - you can see it doesn't quite make it to the air box any longer... Wiring's still a mess, but until it's all started & running right there isn't much sense in cleaning it up right now!
