Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
I did my harness myself, only difference is I'm keeping the Silverado fusebox, so I only had to strip out circuits I'm not using.
|
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
I was going to use wait4me but looking at that harness I might spend a few more bucks and get a nicer one.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
so is this how I run the "hot" cables? through fuse, then to relay, then to location right?
And are the fuse and relay ratings correct? No trigger wires in this sketch....just the 12volt power wires. http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psldcnzlpw.jpg |
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Been out in garage redoing the harness. Rerouted a lot of stuff! Starting to make more sense now. I'm gonna buy some wire loom tomorrow and re wrap it all. I feel like I just threw $360 in the toilet. :( I guess I can be positive and say at least I get free tunes for life. Since I plan on adding a cam, intake, ported heads, and larger injectors at some point I may feel like I got my money's worth eventually. After what I've been doing for the last few hours I really feel like I should have just done this myself to begin with though.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Your wiring diagram looks good. That should be what you need.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Outstanding. Thank you sir!

Old engine all ready to come out tomorrow
http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...pskfqr7eaw.jpg So what do I do with my old alt wires??? http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...pstyisheaj.jpg |
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Ok so do I just splice my old starter wire into the purple starter wire in my LS harness??
|
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Yes that is correct. Actually on you application, the starter circuit is separate electrically from the efi harness. It's just wrapped inside the efi harness.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Good job with all the pics and info, def gonna refer back here when I do my swap!! Sweet step side btw👍

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Hopefully I can get my transmission cleaned up and painted this week after work so I can put the new drivetrain in this weekend! I think I'm gonna wait till its in the vehicle to change the fluid and filter. Thinking about an hd2 shift reprogramming kit too. Does anyone have this kit installed? I know it gives full manual control but does it still allow automatic function as well?

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
I know it's back tracking a bit..But can you tell me how you cleaned the aluminum brackets and accessories to get them ready for paint. I finally got my LQ4 on a stand and have started taking it apart to clean and detail. They are loaded with white powdery oxidation and I'm concerned about the paint sticking and lasting.
|
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
I had all the brackets, water pump, ps pump, and a few other items media blasted. Cost me $80. If I had it to do over I would just goto harbor frieght and pay $40 for the 50lb blaster and do it myself.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Ok I know I flip flop a lot so I'm back on my fuse block and harness. This is how my power wires came back from wait4me performance
http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...pskogxqish.jpg For the sake of properly labeling my fuses, how do I trace what wires go where without ripping the harness back apart? Is it safe to just send 12volts down each wire and check each connector with a multimeter? I see that most people seperate the left injectors and coil packs from the right in the fuse block, then a third fuse for sensors and I want to do this as well. I just want everything to be straight for future trouble shooting. Thanks for any help guys. |

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
I think we all flip flop around these builds. As long as you finish everything :smoke:
|
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
I havent done it on an LS harness specifically but I have used a voltmeter or a test light to do that on plenty of wiring.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
found some stuff laying around from my old car stereo bumpin days....decided to use the one in the middle to power my fuse box. fat 4 gauge split to two 10 gauge leads.
http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psedtbkclb.jpg http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...ps10rpyfwa.jpg This is what Im going for... http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psxvsd7vga.jpg starting to come together...Im having trouble finding relay terminals for 10 gauge wire. wish radio shack was still in business. http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psjdsrbnm9.jpg http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...pscikym4pw.jpg |

i hear you about radio shack. definitely made it more difficult every time i want to wire/rewire something!

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Not trying to hijack your thread; just info to help.
For you guys building your own standalone harnesses, shoot me a PM with your email address in it and I can send you my simple relay diagram. I use Ford Taurus relay bank that has a top and bottom cover. It is located behind the drivers headlight on a Taurus. I also use a raised 6 fuse panel from Ebay. Cheap, clean and effective. Here is a video of the layout without the relay panel to and bottom covers. https://youtu.be/xhqukQYe3Qc |

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Aknovaman,
how did you group your harness wires and what am fuse for each set? I was going to group mine like this.. drivers side coil and injectors 15amp, passenger side coils and injectors 15amp, ign.ecu, sensors, transmission 15amp, batt ecu 10amp does this seem right? thanks for any help |
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
That sounds good. Pm me with your phone number so we can discuss. It's just easier for me that way. Too much typing.
Ls2 Gto actually connects all power on each bank together so there are only 3 power wires. USA gm separates them more into multiple circuits. Went to u wrench it today and harvested over 30 Taurus relay banks. Not bad for $5 each bank. Last time I snagged over 40 obd ports. I prefer to use the new fuse panels as the wires connect with spade lugs below the fuses and terminals are not exposed to morons who drop stuff on them and short things out. Plus I have not found any suitable fuse panels on USA vehicles. I did find some relay banks on ford explorers near driver side firewall on fender but they only contain 2 relays. I use 4 relays, main, fuel, fan1 and fan2. Sunburnt and tired from morning activities.....need ice cream now....... |
Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Aknovaman....thanks for the call and the help. Should have my fuse block done tonight. I'm still kinda confused about transmission but I think it'll make more since when everything is layed out in front of me.

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
got a little done today. Painted transmission..

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Good progress!

Re: Project "Steppin Wolf" LS swap
Finished fuse/relay box. I havent wired in the electric fan relay because Ill be running the manual fan starting off.
http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psmp9f75hn.jpg Also decided to replace the transmission seals. I already had a th400 rear seal laying around and theyre the same part number so I stuck it in there but hafta go buy a 4l80 front seal. I have been on this earth almost 38 years and have yet to find a humane way to remove these seals, lol http://i1382.photobucket.com/albums/...psqitd3qb7.jpg |
