I wonder if anyone buying these wheels uses his truck so conscientiously as a daily driver that tire rotation really matters. My daily driver is an '02 Z28 (same wheels all around) and I rotate the tires twice a year: once in November when the Blizzaks go on and once in March when they come back off. :D

As for me, I'd rather have the exact look I want and have to replace tires negligibly more often than put all that work and money into my truck only to not have the look I really wanted. To each his own. YMMV. Etc.

This group buy is only for Boss 338 wheels in the sizes listed in the first post. If you don't mind them not matching your 304s, you can get two chrome 338s in 20x8.5 for $450 + shipping, but be aware they're backordered without a definite ETA.

I was going to order some 245/40s up and 295/35 in rear.

The 245/40 are real common. 295/40 are NOT common but 295/35 are. go figure. Most tire company recommend a 10in with for the 295s but I dont think .5" will make that big a difference.

245/40/18's and 295/35/18's look awesome together IMO. I ran that setup on my 5"/7" dropped '92 x-cab with Weld Wheels 18x8 front and 18x9.5 rear. The 295 was a bit of a squeeze on the 9.5" wheel, but it wore evenly and didn't look 'pinched' at the sidewalls. I ran Bridgestone Potenza SO2's and those are some of the best tires I've ever had.

I meant for ease of tire rotation. I guess its not a huge deal for me, but I drive a good bit and it would be help with tire life. But....nice fat 295's do look sweet on the back.:metal:

Speaking of tires and saving money ... any of you guys have a good source for great tire prices? Been checking eBay and not turning up too many options in the sizes I want -- looking at 245/40 front and 295/35 or 295/40 rear on my staggered 20s. Not sure if I can go wider on the rear as I'm not in a position to mock the bed up on the chassis (they're in two separate locations right now) but want to get tires ordered.

Sure would be nice if we could get wholesale pricing on some tires to go along with these rims. :)

Should be, although some trucks had 6 lugs

If it's an original 5-lug setup, yes. It would be exceptionally odd for all of the parts to have been swapped out to something different (say an earlier 5-on-4.75 pattern). But the best way to know for sure is to simply measure. You can either measure from the center of the hub to a lug and double it (radius x2) or guesstimate the lug circle and measure from the center of a lug to where the lug circle would be opposite it. (Simple to do with even numbers of lugs, but not so with odd numbers.) Hope that makes sense.

Well...this probably won't help out most folks, but I just found my local tire guy whipped the pants off all the internet prices. Kennesaw Tire Company is getting me 4 255/45-20" Nexen N3000 XL mounted and balanced for $509.59 out the door. Pretty good price as it includes tax at 7%! Yay for the small local guy!:)

Also, any new information on the fitment with the 1/2"spacer?

Sorry it wasn't posted everywhere, but I did the best I could, including my note to the mods to move it if there was a better place for it. Feel free to publicize it as you feel is appropriate. :)

At any rate, the deadline for the next order is this Thursday. No guarantee of future orders beyond that.

i've read through this a few times, and am still not sure if the 20's would fit the 73-87's w/the available back spacing though

i'd like to run 20x8.5's up front and 20x10's in the rear

anyone?

From what I've been told, the '73-87 rear is the same width as the '71-72. I'm planning to run 20x10 out back with a 1" spacer (adapter, really) -- $60 shipped on eBay (about $55 net cost with 8% casyhback from Bing). Fronts should fit without modification.

I was thinking of putting 295 40 20 on the rear, but I'm not sure the 295 will fit in the rear well of my stepside. I measured the wheel well at 11.5 inches and the 295 shows as 11.61 inches wide. So I think I will use a 285 40 20. If anyone has run a 295 40 20 let us know.

I found this web site that configures the height and width of tires;

73-87 rear ends are actually wider. They should fit the 10" width in the rears with no problem

Re: Boss 338 Wheels **GROUP BUY**

UPDATE-

Well, I have some bad news. the -3 revision is currently only for the 20" wheels in gray and Chrome (when available)

The Black -3 revisions are still in production, no certain ETA yet on when they will be ready to ship.

and the worse news... the 18" rims have NOT been retooled yet. Eagle gave me an 18" rim today to test fit. -2 is the current revision on the 18" and I can confirm that it DOES NOT FIT the larger 1.25" rotor. It will however fit the 1" rotor.

So those of you who ordered 18" rims let me know what you want to do, I can refund your order, or we can upgrade you to 20" wheels.

Now that the bad news is out of the way, the good news is the 20" wheels are shipping this week. I should be getting tracking information from Eagle before the end of the week for all of you guys. Once I receive it I will shoot everyone emails with tracking info.

Well I have my mind pretty set on the 18"s.
I guess I just get a refund and wait for -3 version to come out.

The 18" -2 version are in stock and ready to ship, you can run them if you trim the rotor or run a spacer. The only deal is they are not a direct bolt on at the moment.

are you serious or is this an april fools joke? come on man! now what? Can we just wait until they get the 18's retooled and how long will that be?

Since i have to get new hubs and rotors (6 lug to 5 lug) what should i buy to make these wheels fit? I'm basically starting from scratch to make hese wheels fit.

To make the current 18s fit, you need the light-duty (1" thick) rotors up front, which require different spindles and calipers as well. If you're replacing this stuff anyway, it's no big deal -- just be sure of what you're ordering. Out back, there's no issue other than making sure your backspacing is correct, which may require spacers and will be an issue even after the new revision is out, since the only thing being changed is the hub bore.

Well i like having the option instead of being limited to one size but if i have to instead of not getting them at all i will, but if i wait since i'm not ready just yet, do you think this issue will be resolved in a month?

It doesn't seem that even the manufacturer can give an ETA on these. Could be a week, could be a month, could be much longer. Considering that people have been throwing out dates since last fall that turned out to be wishful thinking, I wouldn't count on anything. I didn't even think about trying to get a group buy started until after it was confirmed that the revised wheels were shipping. At the time I only cared about grey 20s, which were in stock when I started this thread, but now I've decided on chrome 20s instead and I'm in the same boat as the 18" guys now. All we can do is wait. :waah:

yeah what he said...when I first ran into this problem I called ECE to see what they thought and they said I could take my drop spindles off and they could replace (uhhh shoot, whats that part called) the THING so they'd accept the 1" rotors but I didnt have a place to do the work and leave on jacks for a couple weeks so I held off....but it is an option. BUT back to what Brossow said, if your not done with the conversion none of this is even an issues...just plan acccordingly

Alright, forgive my ignorance, but since i havent started the conversion from 6bolt to 5 and drums to rotors, youre saying just get the wheels i paid for as they are and get the spindles and rotors that will work with them ? Can you help me to know which will work with these wheels besides just 1" thick rotors?

a link with pictures would be great.

I haven't done this personally, so I'll leave the details to someone who has. It's described in the original thread, IIRC. (Link to that thread is at the top of the first post in this thread.)

call the guys at Early Classic Enterprises (888.777.0395). I cant remember the guys name I spoke with. It wasnt Stan though....damn Im bad with names..
I didnt do it like I said because I didnt have a garage I could do the work and wait for them to be shipped back....but when I told them the issue, they didnt seem as if it were a problem.
