What would you do?

I'm debate if I should keep or replace the current rims on my 1970 C-20.

Here is what it looks like now

This is a model I have that I like the style of rim, not the size though, too big.

And here is another thought that I really like but being 3/4 ton, not sure the baby moons would fit due to the rear hubs, (picture borrowed from Square_78, cause it looks great)

My opinion,I would keep them. They look good on your truck..Not a fan of big rims,I like fat tires..;}As far as the baby moons, they look better on slant nose's.Again just my opinion.

I love the chrome 5 spoke-----cant ever go wrong with 5 spoke!!!! But I agree with you on size.
Im gonna run either coys or TT IIs on mine (when I get it back together.)

Re: What would you do?

The current rims do suit my truck. I need new tires and may go a but bigger since I can get them in an LT. Right now I have 265/70/16 and I need to go to 265/75/16 to get an LT tire.

Looks like I have room for it. It will raise the truck just under 1/2" but that's not a completely bad thing.

Also being 8 bolt, it's hard to find a 5 spoke for it.

I like the rims on the model much better... however I am a fan of the "torq thrust" style rims and I like them in the 19-20" range on our trucks... especially when lowered a few inches.

I do have one other option. 22" rims that are still available. I was offered the rims a couple years ago and the shop still as them, so they want them gone.

This post has the pictures of them. Price might be different now, seeing how they are still sitting in them.

Of course the front is dropped about 4" and the rear is dropped about 5" and no tires on, so they would fill the opening much better with the vehicle weight back on it.

You guys are swaying my decision to keep what I have on there and get the new tires that are slightly taller so I can go LT tires.

NOW the million dollar question.........with the new tires, do I keep it white lettering or not.

Myself I like the white lettering on it since the tires are so big, it helps take away from the size.

I don't care much for what you have -- had similar on my half-ton and sold them on CL for $150 -- and I don't think you're going to find a lot of five-spoke wheels that will fit on a C-20.

As someone else posted, the baby moons probably won't work but you might be able to get a similar look with steelies, dog dish caps and beauty rings.

But I didn't want to be totally negative so I did some digging around and found these on ebay. That will at least get you in the ballpark of what I think you're looking for.

Regardless of your choice in wheels, stay with the blackwalls. Whitewalls are for old men and raised white letters are for rookies.

I'm going to have to photoshop the white lettering to see what it looks like gone.

These wheels would look good but they won't fit. They changed the lug pattern on the newer Chevys. I'm very interested in what you decide to do. I will be lowering my C20 and I've been kicking around tire/wheel combos.

You could always convert to 5-lug 1/2-ton suspension,...:metal:

Thought about it, but then it wouldn't be a C-20 anymore and all I've ever seen were C-10. I like having something different.

Yeah you gotta keep the white letters they just go with the look of the wheel and the truck Just my opinion though..lol

But its all in your taste, some like the white letters some like white walls and some just like the black wall so you gotta just put on it what You like and the look your going for.

Re: What would you do?

Tire debate is still going. Some of the guys at work also like the hire lettering on my truck, due to the style and color of it.

BUT, staying with a white lettering tire is limiting my choices. So I'm looking at possibly going black sidewall, but looking for a a bit more of a performance tire since this truck is only driven in the summer.

Any thoughts on what tire to go with, that is more of a performance tread than a stock looking tire?

Re: What would you do?

i think you should change them. i might be the minority here, and im not saying your truck looks bad, but sometimes change is a good thing. put some new wheels and tires on, give it a custom look, i think you'll enjoy something new. good luck

Re: What would you do?

If it was mine I would go with 16x8 steel wheels painted white with the chrome/aluminum stock small cap. Put some decent size tires on there with blackwall out. It will look like the real workhorse a 3/4 ton is supposed to. It will be the nicest one around and every guy that sees it while you are out and about will drool all over it lol.

There are a ton of pics on the board that show that look

Re: What would you do?

It's your truck, do what you want but since you asked, I'd change them. There are modern wheels that look good on our trucks, you just have to find them.
