Autometer gauge cluster- Gringoloco style*

After spending an eternity looking for the elusive 3 3/8" fuel level gauge for the center hole, I started exploring other options.

I found the arctic white and designer black Autometer quads to be very appealing -one problem- the tach is only offered standard in 3 1/8" and 5". Disgusted, I searched for other options, to no avail.

While searching for another part, I happened upon an ad for the arctic white tach in 3 3/8". Was this a typo? a misprint? a cruel joke? One quick call to Summit confirmed that, indeed, it was available, albeit special order.

Three weeks later, on my doorstep, I find a box full of gauges. Hooray! These things are spendy$$$

After a few weeks of backorder on the gauge bezel from GMCPauls, it finally arrived yesterday. I got to work right away cutting an old cluster to peices to fit the Autometers. This is what came from all the hard work and $$$...

I don't really care for the red, looks kinda pink to me. The green is cool, but a little too green, I think. The 'stock' white looks good, it makes the orange needles stand out too. Maybe some blue or white LEDs would look good.

What do you guys think? -Chris

The Arctic White Series
http://static.summitracing.com/globa...atm-1303_w.jpg

1303- Electronic Speedo/Electric Quad Gauge combo, 5", All sending units included
1390- Special Order 3 3/8" Tachometer

Designer Black Series
http://static.summitracing.com/globa...atm-1410_w.jpg

1403 and 1490 respectively

You could probably save some coin by going with a mechanical speedo, if they offer it in 5", and order the quad seperately. I went with the electrical, as I likely will have a 6-speed soon- no mechanical output.

Also, be careful not to order the 1398 or 1498 tach. These are the 3 1/8" versions. Too small.

Yeah, they just looked 'cleaner' to me. And the aforementioned unavailability of gauges to do it any other way...

The white gauges look really cool but I'm really suprised at how dark the centers are. I would think they would have designed them to be brighter. Did the fuel gauge have the 90 ohm sender for our trucks?

Just a standard blade type 168 bulb. I think they look that way because the gauge faces are so bright to begin with. Notice how they're kinda yellow compared to the daytime pic?

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys  These were stupid easy to install too...

I agree. I'm thinking of getting some 5-bulb LEDs. Just can't decide on blue or white.

The pictures actually exaggerate the effect greatly. The centers are not nearly as dramatically dark in person.

That's the one hang-up on these. It uses a different ohm scale sender.

Good thing is, it comes with the gauges. In-cab tank guys may have trouble adapting it though...

How will you hook yours up?. Will it work with the Blazer rear tank setups?

I have the Blazer style tank, I don't forsee any problems getting it to work properly. I will either replace the stocker with it, or find a way to adapt the sender itself to the stock pickup tube.

You could also, as they suggest, just drill a new hole for it.

It's a universal style, adjustable for depth. It would be a bolt-in affair with a tank from fuelcellguy or a fuel cell.

Looks like this:

Sic Wiked my friend, how do they look installed? how's the line of
sight to the guages, I'm tall & that the other style cluster is kinda
useless, I can't even hardly see the lower 4 holes from the angle.

Understand the tall thing, 6'6" here. Makes those lower gauges impossible to see.

They aren't in the truck yet. I originally put these together for my '70 short fleet, but I hope to be getting a 2WD Blazer this weekend, so I am saving them for it.

Closest I got to installed pics are the ones lit up by my 12v power supply. I'll post some when I get it in the truck.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Nice to know the money was well spent...

Gives it a nice clean look, and still all the gauges in a small package.I like it.

those do look great. almost makes me wanna switch to a 3-hole cluster. on the other hand, i bet one could find a few other gauges to fit in the lower 4 holes...(boost pressure, air bag pressure, etc.)

i was actually contemplating the same type of set-up, except using a 5" tach and 3-3/8" quad. after finishing your set-up, do you think a 3-3/8" quad would be too small to read?

Good ideas here, all it would take is a bezel swap to get some more gauges for add-ons.

Looking at the quad, the needles are already pretty small. It would be easy enough, though, to know if something is going wrong. I figure, if one of the needles in the quad falls below the halfway point- you got problems- or are running out of gas...

The quad in the middle would give a nice symmetrical look to the cluster too.

:gi: Wish I'd thought of it...

Here's a crummy MSPaint hack of your idea; I think it looks pretty good. Also , on the 5" tach, you lose the zeros.(1,2,3... instead of 10,20,30...) Much better looking in my opinion.

TTT.... Dusting this one off. Why is it they can't make the full spectrum on all their gauge lines?!

I was thinking along these lines & filling the lower holes w/air gauges. Guess what? Autometer only makes the air gauges in certain lines..... and those lines don't offer the quad gauge.

Check other manufacturers & it's the same problem. They either offer quad gauges but no air-psi or air-psi & no quad gauges  .

I thought the same thing. I think it's the Airlift gauges that are white background with orange needles. Not perfect, but close. I am just going to hide my airride stuff...

Yep.... But, if it doesn't match, it's not worth spending the $$ to switch.

you could always just get classic instruments to custom make you a set - a sort of package, if you will. i called them once about custom gauges, and iirc, they weren't much more than the standard sets. 'course the standard ones are spendy anyway...

When I had my old s10 I had all the silver faced Auto Meters.. Pro Comps I think, and also had two matching PSI gauges for the airride.. they were nice gauges
