i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
1 Attachment(s)
yes, we've all seen it. the camaro concept. one of the things i find most striking is how clean the engine bay is. while it is a concept, it still looks very do-able.
any ideas or images anyone would like to share? |
Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
our engine bays are simple like that, but there's no way anybody could replicate the looks of that.

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
In all reality, on that Camaro concept the engine looks like it's just an LS2 with a cover on it. So anyone with an LSX or Gen III+ smallblock could slap that cover on (if/when it's available). The billet tower brace... Well we don't have shock towers like that. Hide wiring, relocate the battery, paint satin black, etc. If you have fab skills you could come pretty close.

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
yall posted at the same time about the same thing. i personally think that's ugly. i'd take the valve cover covers and custom paint or pinstripe em.
|
Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
You can fabricate eng compartment covers :D
|
Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
fab skills a must, of course. on the camaro, it appears that the power steering pump is mounted high (great idea since you can more easily replace fluid.) has anyone done that before? custom brackets? i also dig the 'maro valve covers. would it be ok to put alt. elsewhere? also, a/c comes into play.
i'm thinking about all this 'cause i'm getting ready to do my own LS4 swap, and i'm trying to get ideas... |

that's ok, but they say it won't work for LS engines. i'd like to see the smooth valve covers for all that stuff on the LSX valve covers. something to clean up/cover all the wiring and stuff. |
Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
My truck came stock with a engine compartment cover. Also known as...the hood. ;-)

I can think of a bunch of folks on this board with the skills to do that. May not be molded plastic (if thats what that is), but certainly could be done out of sheet metal. Definatley would take lots of time, planning, and surely a few mulligans! |

Something similar could be done on a 67-72. The packs could be put anywhere you want. Just run longer wires. |

I don't see why you couldn't make on out of fiberglass to cover any engine, given enough time, and sandpaper. |

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
Are the engines so ugly now they have to fab plastic covers to hide them? Well, yeah, they are. While I have grown tired of the term old school , I guess you can call me old school since I still like the way they used to be with aluminum and chrome topside. we don't need no stinkin engine covers...

Just a little bit of cover up can go a long way....

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
Ken, well, it does still resemble our beloved small block since the valve covers are still visible ya know. ;)

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
i have to agree with boog on this one. if i want a bunch of plastic covers and crap covering up my engine compartment i will just buy a late model vehicle. i like a little bit of chrome and some nice paint and detailing.

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
don't mistake the point. the reason i like it doesn't have anything to do with plastic or aluminum or whatever material you eye zooms in on. it's the appearance. the cleanliness. the simplicity. the rationale being that this chiseled, muscular form boldly hints at an extremely complex mechanical subsurface, yet isn't so presumptuously bragging as to show off all its bits. it's more of a deep growl than it is an all-out bark. just enough to show a few teeth. that's why i like it.

Re: i want my engine bay to look like this! any ideas?
Interesting...how would that match up with the exterior of one of these trucks...it would have to be shaved clean and very modern as well to retain the theme. Go for it!
