That filter is a fire waiting to happen. The stories you hear are not BS, they are very true.
I have one I use as wall art packed away somewhere since the move. Even having one, I would (and have) drive with NO air filter before putting that POS on top of my engine.

Ahh, i knew i heard that somehwere, i just couldnt remember.

What is it that makes them so dangerous? I decided im just going to go with the k&n triangle filter. Not the dangerouse one.

the foam in those will trap gas spray. Every time you pump the throttle to fire it up, a little sprays upwards and into that foam.
All it takes is the slightest of a backfire... just a hickup, and it can light up.
I ignored everyone on this and learned my self.

Yes that is the engine in my truck.....That harness cover you see there is nothing other than an A/C vent tubing that we ran the harness thru all the way to the fender. The body shop was supposed to smooth the harness hole also as we were going to put it on the left side at the bottom of the floor and then they did not do it and the firewall was painted we had no choice but to rig this to make an attemp to cover it up as best as we could.

I had one that caught on fire on my Chevelle, I try to warn everyone that has one about it, but they usually don't listen.

Big Mike... I was one of those guys at one point.
At least the paint on the hood was already burned before I ignored the guys that knew more than me. I burned quite a bit of paint and ruined a nice leather jacket putting that fire out.

Mine is wall art as well, learned about 15 years ago that a back fire is all that was needed to

Actually, it's almost just like that. You need to try to stick with a theme through the whole engine bay. I like the ball milled air cleaners, but without ball milled valve covers, or some kind of milled aluminum, it would look like socks on a rooster.

lyrikz, you have chrome steel valve covers with the CHEVROLET emossed letters, so my suggestion would be a chrome steel air cleaner lid. Something with no lettering or with the same style lettering as the VC's if possible. The tiangle style air cleaner you have picked should look great. My only suggestion would be lettering choices like I mentioned above.

Re: Im stumped on something silly. Air filter setup.

As a public service announcement, i feel i should present my story concerning the edlebrock "triangle" air cleaner.

But first, let me say that i think Edlebrock is a great company and i use other edlebrock products. But i think they dropped the ball concerning this type of air cleaner.

http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...p?topic=7169.0

In another instance, i used that exact same air cleaner on another car and the engine had a backfire and the engine physically blew the air cleaner off the engine about 20 inches in the air. (the latch mechanism for this air cleaner is also maybe not the best design out there) i had the hood up when this happened.

b) the other concern is that the foam may be too close to the top of the carb and/or bowl vents. This can cause problems with fuel metering.

Now, as far as what styles of air cleaners i do like are the dual snorkel type that alot of hi-po gm cars had. In this way, you're getting high volume air intake when needed while still getting maximum mpg.

Yep... like stated before... fire waiting to happen but no one listens. I had one on a V-8 chainsaw... yep, you read that right... a V-8 chainsaw... back fire in the carb caused a heck of a fire...

Here it is in action... that's the bed of my Dad's 1970 C/10 on the left...

That's me on the left...
