D-Ranged. A ranger with a little tweaking
Here is the truck whose nickname is D-Ranged.
Basically it started as a bone stock 1994 Ranger. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0085_large.jpg http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0084_large.jpg Well, then i got the 4by itch, and decided to do a small lift and run 33's http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0060_large.jpg http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0058_large.jpg Then that wasn't good enough (why, i dont know, but i wanted it different) So i decided to go full width, with a Dana 44 I beam suspension from a 93 big bronco and a 9" from a 79 F100 2wd. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0093_large.jpg http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0094_large.jpg I never finished the swap. It was in, but it was not safe to drive, just not good at all. since it wasn't safe, time for ANOTHER rebuild. This time a straight axle, coil overs, and an engine cage. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...8_416536_n.jpg Then I remembered i wasn't a big fan of the 93-97 style front end, soooo i changed it. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6644686_n.jpg Then i added flares, new grille, bumper, and a winch. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._1058861_n.jpg Then I went to Maaco for a cheap paint job https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2395113_n.jpg Then i put everything back together and went playing... https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._5564212_n.jpg |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Well, the truck gets wheeled. And wheeled hard. about 3 months ago i overheated the power steering, the engine, and the clutch, all while being stuck. it took two Jeeps, a winch, a big ass tow strap, and some body damage to get me out
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...10306-0930.jpg Then I blew it up. Cracked both heads. Since it was down, i rebuilt the front suspension, reworked the rear a little, and rebuilt the top end of the motor. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7681162_n.jpg Took about a month for everything with school and work, but i got it done just in time to drive the 800 miles to Moab, UT. |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Awesome, I love the build-destroy-rebuild theme.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2614.jpg Little more body damage... http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2615.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2616.jpg |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Damage always sucks!
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
ah, its just a part of life if you go rock crawling. lol
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Thats true. A friend of mine who has a Sidekick all crazied out says the same thing... I couldnt handle it.
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
TRUST ME, it takes a lot of getting used to. I have always dealt with slammed big body trucks and all you want is clean lines, no rust, and no dents.
With this one, its more of, I just want it to look somewhat presentable. lol |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
The way I see it, dents, scrapes, dings add character. They tell everyone looking at your rig that you're serious about what you do.
BTW, nice name for your wheeler. |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Thanks buddy!

Re: 94 SFA Ranger
well, the Ranger is in a sad state right now... I cracked two more of the alluminum rims, and the tires keep going flat. Its still covered in mud, and has an exhaust leak. I did take out the alluminum spacers from the front of the truck. The power steering pump is acting up again, and the tierod is making all kinds of noise. I guess 3 trips offroad in 3 weekends was a little too much for the ol gal.

Noice, those will do ya good :)

Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Update!!
Went to go get the tires last night, not a great idea considering one of the cracked rims is on the truck still.... About 30 miles down the road, this happens.... http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r..._1594832_n.jpg I was running around 70 on the freeway and the tire blew out. no warning, just all the sudden i had no control and tire chunks were flying everywhere. Almost came face to ass with a Semi, but managed to get it off the road. Called AAA, and they came to my rescue... http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r..._2888617_n.jpg And my ol lady made me pose for Facebook http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...55_84815_n.jpg Ended up going back and getting her dad's Edge and took it up there to get the tires. Yes, I fit 4 37's in the back of a Ford Edge. Comfortably. I am debating on picking one of these up for a DD.... A trip that should've taken around 3 hrs, took 7. ugh.... At least i got tires now... |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
WOW man! Glad your ok.
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger

Re: 94 SFA Ranger
got the new tires and wheels on, but now i have the worst death wobble in the world. WTH???
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Well, this weekend i ordered my new coil over springs. Went with a 200 spring. Hopefully that will help out in the flexy department. Taking the truck out to Hellfire Fab this week. Moving the front axle forward 2", lowering the front an inch, and adding a traction bar to the rear.
Might even move the tank to the bed. Haven't made up my mind on that yet. Also going to get a new rear driveshaft made. The one that is in it is pretty beat up. Just going to use it as a spare. BTW, Here is the most recent pic of the truck after cleaning it up, and adding some BBs to the tires. Still has a little bit of DW, but at least its driveable again now. http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2648.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2649.jpg |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
a steering stabilizer will help with the DW, especially since your using the factory gear box.
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
going Hydro assist, that's why it doesn't have one already
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Those tires look Ba on there, very nice :D

Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Thanks bud! Looks like Hydro is going on the back burner for a bit.... installing a doubler.
I have to have a new rear driveshaft made anyway, i have to move the tank when i do the L-Series swap, and my trans crossmember in the truck now is bent. Now I'm on the hunt for the D&D kit.... Cutting down the T-Case this weekend. |

na, gotta keep it driveable. I love driving this thing.

Re: 94 SFA Ranger
Well, got the tank ordered today. Alpha Automotive in Wisconsin has Factory Ford replacement auxilary Ranger tanks for like 85 bucks shipped. A brand new 13 gallon tank that fits right between the frame rails and doesn't hang anywhere near as low as the B2 tank. He is shipping it Fedex today. Since i am a Former Marine and the guy's son is active Army, he hooked me up. 50 bucks for a new tank shipped to my front door. Be here by Monday!!
|
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
guess who i got ahold of today :D
Ordered my Doubler for DD Machine, will be shipped tomorrow, and should be here middle of next week. Looks like the fuel system will be this weekend, and building the doubler will be next. Getting me ready for the fab work by the first of the month. |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger
well, gotta little update. I worked on getting some things done to the truck. One of the things i needed to fix ASAP was the little bit of DW that it still had. Fixed that with a complete re-balance of the wheels. This time with weights instead of BB's.
also noticed a while back that my track bar mount had cracked the frame, so a buddy let me borrow his welder and i went to work. Made a couple of pieces that connect to the bracket and to the engine crossmember. MUCH stiffer now. Only problem is the pump isn't liking the extra work, so Hydro assist setup is next on the chopping block. I'll have it in before Rubicon. Also replaced the A/C stuff. My hose that ran to the compressor had a hole in it, and the accumulator was shot, so I replaced both of those. Going to get a remanned compressor off ebay. They have them for like 70 bucks. Picked up the fuel lines and the barbed fittings to extend the gas tank lines as well. Just waiting on the tank to get here first. Took a couple pics of the truck and the "gussets" http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2654.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2655.jpg http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/100_2657.jpg |
Re: 94 SFA Ranger

Re: 94 SFA Ranger
