Re: Wrecked the chevy

Well, that is a bummer but if you are anything like me you have the front clip removed and half the parts ready to get it back on the road.

Move Forward....

Re: Wrecked the chevy

I was more worried about her than my truck. She just got her license in December (i`m only 17)and I wrecked it about 3:45 got it home about 6:30 and had the front clip off it about 8:00 .Then I found out the frame was bent so i`m at a stand still until I get the frame straighted . Already got another hood ,inner fender, and radiator support.
Just got to find a fender ,grille ,and bumper.

Oh yeah and neither one of us was hurt .She was just shook up.I hugged her after after we loaded my truck up on the gooseneck
and said we do alot of stuff together but we don`t need to have no more wrecks together.

Re: Wrecked the chevy

Now that everyone is ok... you have to explain WTF happened??? Did you rear end her (I couldn't think of any way to word it that doesn't sound dirty, sorry) or was it head on??? If you didn't mention another car I would have guessed you hit a tree or pole.

Dude, glad you two are ok. I feel your pain I wrecked mine Jan 6. This year started off with a bang for sure

cub1450 01-30-2013 08:47 PM

Re: Wrecked the chevy

I met her coming down the hill and I tapped my brakes to slow down to meet her and one of my back brakes locked up and pulled me to the left and She swerved to her left to miss me and we both hit passenger side fenders. She drove me back about ten feet.if she wouldn`t have swerved and if I wouldn`t have got over as quick as I did we would have have hit head on.

Her tuck isn`t in the picture we had already towed it away. Its about in the same shape.

Re: Wrecked the chevy

I am glad that you and your girl are ok after the accident! Let me guess, it was a little slick out when you hit the brakes so it locked up? I refuse to drive my truck when its even a little slick, 4 wheel drums suck!!!

Square_78 01-30-2013 09:07 PM

Re: Wrecked the chevy

Oh yeah when I stand on my brake pedal, the truck yanks itself to the right. Its not very safe at all. Gotta love drums. Glad you two are ok.

Re: Wrecked the chevy

I rebuild wrecks for a living and I lost a brother in a car wreck It is a whloe lot easier to replace that old sheermetal. Im sure right now while both of you are without your rides it is still a sore subject in more ways than one, but belive me when I say it is just old metal no matter how much you love your truck it can be fixed or replaced. The ones you love or even like a lot can't. Now back to the truck, if you would like to either send me some pics of the frame or post 'em up here I'll look at them and give an opinion on weather it would be cheaper/easier to replace or repair the frame under the truck now. Too bad your not close to me as my frame machaine is empty right now and I would have been glad to help a brother out as it were. Oh, two more thing glad your both ok, it still is a nice truck. Jim

When I was your age, I wrecked our brand new 69 GMC. Brought down a power pole in 3 peices. knocked the entire drivetrain off the mounts. Only thing good was the cab and bed, but they fixed it. After that, I slowed down.

Re: Wrecked the chevy

Wow, I am glad you and your girlfriend are OK. I think it is a saver for sure. That is a nice looking truck. It does not look like from the photos that it got into the front suspension too bad. Does it roll and steer OK? If the frame won't straighten out, find a donor frame and have the horns welded on yours (everything from the control arms forward). I remember when something like that would have got scraped. It is just to valuable now to not fix it. Besides that, you and your girlfriend will have a interesting story to tell your grand children some day :)

Todays Progress

Straightened front of the frame and welded a patch in the radiator support.
Taking it next Sunday to get the frame straightened and back in line.

Sorry about your truck but its sure encouraging to see a young guy able to do that kind of work! I have three daughters and none of their boyfriends during high school could even jump start a car. My girls would have to do it for them! It seems like if its not a phone to text on young guys aren't interested in it. Good for you! And good luck rebuilding your truck!
