New here...my '70 C10 build
For as long as I can remember I have wanted a C10. My boyfriend and I have been looking for a good 6 months for a decent deal on one with no luck. Well about a month ago, we found one less than 15 miles from our house...and it was in amazing shape! Here is the day we bought it:
http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...pszfk3dstm.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmdpnh3ti.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psejpqytab.jpg Someone did a quick restore of the truck, so the paint is a 6 at best, but it's a good base for a driver which is what we want. It's a factory tach and A/C truck (although there is no A/C currently). http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psz66yinqo.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2jb3tbt1.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psgx8p64zq.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psnrh0i28u.jpg The truck is actually in really good condition. There is one rust spot and it's in the fender well, so no big deal there. The underneath isn't pretty and the panhard bar is suuuuper bent, but all and all, it's not really THAT bad. http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...pszdzjcawz.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psglvdeusw.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psikpxmtpk.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...pszuemhvsp.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...pssaysjjgr.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psn9sebir3.jpg We have changed exactly 5 things on the truck so far. Amber blinker lenses (I like them better than clear), ignition On/Off plate, steering wheel, of course you have to have a window sticker, and we took the huge rear bumper off as we will be replacing that. http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps2ak3u8oi.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps01g44j8o.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps1ad26085.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...pspvhmxvay.jpg As far as plans for the truck goes, we will pretty much be changing everything about the truck other than the body. We are leaving that alone. We have ordered full front and rear suspension from Roadster Shop that should be here by September 1st. According to those guys, other than the 2 trucks they have built, we will be the first to sport their suspension for these trucks. SUPER excited to see it. We went ahead and upgraded to Penske shocks, Wilwood brakes and Strange 9" and axles. We are LS swapping the truck, most likely we will go with a 6.2L and it will be a turbo build. We already have a Borg Warner S400SX T6 for it. http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psuvujea6i.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...psu0qm4en2.jpg As far as wheels go, I initially wanted to go with Forgestar F14f's, but I think I have since decided on Forgeline DE3C's. Here is a quick photoshop someone did for us on the F14f's...I am really excited! http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps4gfolmhp.jpg |

Roadster Shop complete front and rear suspension will be here in a month hopefully and the transformation will begin :) Truck will most likely be a 5/7 to 6/8 static drop, so stock fender wells will have to go. |
Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
looks like a great truck it will sit nicely with that Supra!

It's been a little while since I have updated this thread, but we have been busy!
Received the Roadster Shop front and rear suspension...it's beyond badass: http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5634.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5635.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5636.jpg In the first night, we pulled the front end off and the stock 350 and TH400 out: http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5647.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5650.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5655.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5656.jpg And just because I like this picture: http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5664.jpg A look at the stock stuff underneath of a 44 year old truck: http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5652.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5653.jpg http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...0/IMG_5654.jpg |
Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
After we mocked up the front, it was time to start on the rear of the truck. We pulled the bed off and pulled out the stock rearend and trailing arms:

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build

|
Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
I'll definitely be tuning in for this one! Like others have said, it looked good before you started. Can't wait to see the finished product.
|
Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Ok, I'm jealous. The truck looked great the day y'all bought it. The RS products look great too. How well did it all fit together? What was the stock rearend ratio?
|
Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Thanks so much everyone! This is literally my dream build!
Quote:
I have no idea what the stock gear ratio was in the truck. I probably drove it less than 200 miles before we tore it apart for this build. We are going with 3.70's in the Strange 9" though. |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
It's been a little while since I have posted some updates! We are busy getting ready to attend SEMA next week, but I am going to try and update you on our current project!
We have been working on the body work and a little fabrication along the way. We want to keep the "stock" look of this truck as much as possible, while still incorporating modern touches to make this truck an awesome driver. Stock tubs removed: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7579/...5485681d_b.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3953/...22e260df_b.jpg Checking for tire clearance...and it turns out we have PLENTY with only widening the tub by an inch or so: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7464/...e4315003_b.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3947/...7bf985ed_b.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3945/...cc731ed7_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7575/...043a490d_b.jpg And back to more boring stuff...body work. This is literally the only bit of rust that is on the truck...driver side door: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5611/...3a9de346_b.jpg Working on the hood: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3935/...34b3678f_b.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3940/...b62662d4_b.jpg We are relocating the tank to the rear of the truck, so that left us with deciding what to do with the fuel door. We didn't want it to be in the bed like most others do because I didn't want to have to put the tailgate down every time I wanted to fill up (yes, I am kind of lazy). I wanted to keep the factory gas cap on the cab because I love the way it looks, but obviously it will be cosmetic only. Bob came up with a cool idea that we loved because it will keep the stock look of the truck and won't appear that we have two gas caps: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7509/...248740a0_b.jpg It's just the rear sidemarker light when it's closed, but when it's open: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7529/...4a176d3a_b.jpg Fuel door! The next piece we needed to take care of was the route of the filler neck. By putting the fuel door here, it basically takes a 90* turn straight down due to the bedside. This would make it a huge PITA to fill up because you would have to pump so slow in order for it to not back up and want to spit fuel back out at you. So we fabbed a pipe that takes the 90* angle out of it which will allow fuel to flow normally: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3933/...6dc30a81_b.jpg We went with Forgeline DE3C wheels, 19s up front and 20s in the back. The finish is titanium centers with brushed outers...I LOVE how they came out. I think they are perfect! A little dirty in this pic: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3934/...99d53181_b.jpg Now that we had the wheels, we needed to work on the front tubs. We wanted to keep the coverage to a minimum because we didn't want to hide the badass suspension pieces. Once again, Bob is working his magic and they are coming out awesome: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7525/...3673cb09_b.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7513/...ec9f0fab_b.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3938/...be9248b3_b.jpg For those of you that aren't familiar, there is a ton of empty space along the inner fender of these trucks. He took time to fill in a lot of the space to make it look like the tub is supposed to be there. It's going to look killer! The bed is just about ready for paint as well as the two doors, but I won't bore you with primer pictures. We did decide on Viper GTS Blue/Arctic White as the colors. Of course, we will be putting our own twist on the color. We are going to hit it hard once we get back from SEMA, so I should have more frequent updates. Here is a fun one to leave you with for now: https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5602/...e7d71c9d_b.jpg |

Such a cool truck.
Any chance when you repaint it you will paint below the lower trim white? This would be the correct tu-tone paint scheme for the 69-70 c10's. Like this truck,... |

Re: New here...my '70 C10 build
Love it. The last picture you posted, is that anticipated ride height? I was expecting it to be lower with the suspension you have. Of course, I am going off the orange and white one that RS built. Going to be an awesome truck!
Thanks for posting updates Lydia! |

But we have quite a bit of adjustment with the double adjustable Penskes so, trust me, this truck will be low, lower than in the pictures for just driving around. You can see from how the front wheels are set in so far, we can also go lock to lock this low without a single issue. We will probably space them out an inch or so just because I don't like how far in they are set. |
