Does anyone else see this????

I KNOW I have somethig goin on withmy computer, not sure if its a virus or what... trying to get it figured out...... BUT... I notice here on the board... random words will be underlined and and you can click on them and it brings up MAJOR pop up ads... for example... "fatfords" name under one of his posts was underlined, and the word "win" in another word was an underlined link also. Anyone else see this??? OR any ideas why I am/?? really WEIRD... Also I wouldnt open ANY emails or PMs from me for a while til I get this figured out... hopefully tonight.
Thanks
junk

I don't have anything like that happening here Jodie. For a quick free scan of your computer, check here
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
It should find any virus you may have lurking on your computer

Cat Fuzz 05-18-2004 05:37 PM

You've been hijacked. A prog has been installed on your compuiter that has jacked your browser. Try this. It's called CWShredder. It should fix your problem.

Sounds like you have spyware. Here is a good website for some help http://www.kephyr.com/

neonlarry 05-18-2004 06:16 PM

^ sounds to me like spyware also. This is a link to spybot search & destroy, a top rated program to get rid of spyware and its free.

And once you get rid of the spyware, get a good firewall.

rickspickuppart 05-18-2004 06:39 PM

find a thread where it is happening to you, and let us know which one it is, so we can make sure it isn't a problem to anyone else.

Adaware from www.lavasoft.de works pretty good. Make sure that you "check for updates" once you install it and before you run the full-on scan.

barn9 05-19-2004 11:25 AM

I have adaware and it seems to do a good job. I wish it would automatically get rid of the spyware though. Does spybot do the same thing, or is it somehow different? Just out of curiosity, would it be good to have them both?

Mudder 05-19-2004 11:48 AM

I run both..........

Norton Internet Security is a great bundle!

GMCjunkie 05-19-2004 04:11 PM

Already have the "adaware" ran it a few times, it found it but it couldnt get rid of "whateveritis"

Uh.... Dubie, its "afternoon".....Wheres Jack???

Cat Fuzz 05-19-2004 04:45 PM

I'm tellin' ya you need CWShredder. I've had this exact same thing happen to my computer. :)

teeitup 05-19-2004 04:46 PM

I got some kind of deal in mine right now too, I've down loaded about all these deals you all have said but still got it, it comes up Spotresults all the time, I'm real tired of it.

Warbones 05-19-2004 04:51 PM

I'm missing emails and pm from Jodie. :)

Yukon Jack 05-19-2004 04:54 PM

Ah, I'm right here

Have you tried Spybot? It is pretty good also.

Jewels posted in the general discussion forum some specific commands to change in Ad-Aware - I made those changes and got rid of some thing that was slowing my computer down. I saw it last week - I will try to find the link for you.

Yukon Jack 05-19-2004 04:55 PM

Here is the link, Jewel's info is a few replies down http://64.246.42.114/vboard/showthre...light=ad-aware

Orange70chevy 05-19-2004 05:09 PM

Here is what I do when adware and spybot won't do the job. Go to www.pcpitstop.com (you will have to regester) and let it test your computer. It will give you results of what upgrades you computer could use and advice on what you could do to make your computer run better. Anyways when you are at the results it should say check background programs you can click on it and find out what the name of the program is running in the background of your computer. Then take that name and go to yahoo or somewheres like that and search up that program name and you can find sites that will give you step by step instructions on how to remove that program.

da-burb 05-19-2004 06:30 PM

I had a problem that was messing up my Explorer tool bar. I tried the SpyBot Search and Destroy and cleared out a mess of stuff. It fixed my particular problem. Thanks for the suggestion Neonlarry.
