Timing
Sorry for the repeated questions, however, My Burb has a 350 in it with a points distributor. This weekend I am going to put in an HEI distributor with new plugs & wires. What is the timing recommended to be set at??

My blazer with a 350 and a 350trans runs best with 10btdc,and the plugs gapped at 045.

most sbc's like 34 to 36 deg total timing. I dont know how much you know about this stuff, but smokekiki is rite, just remove the vac line off the vac advance to take the initial 10 deg.

I got the HEI installed. I set the timing at 10 Degrees BTDC. It runs great & I am glad I did it. I also adjusted the steering box to make it tighter. There was alot of play in it before. Does anybody know the pitfalls of doing this or what to be careful of? What am I actually adjusting? One more thing about the HEI, I used an inline fuse rated at 30 Amps. Is this ok or should I use one rated at less??

i agree. are your ball joints,tie rods & all the front end stuff good. How about the rag joint. I've had several lifted 4x4's & they all had an issue or 2 with the steering after i lifted them except the body lifted truck. It was an IFS truck & seemed ok with the 33's. the 84 i had i put every new front end part i could plus a new steering box. My 35" tires tracked true after that.

As far as I know, everything is ok. I haven't got the chance to grease anything yet. It looks like anything has been greased in a quite a while. The zirk fittings are covered with crud...
