blower motor

i was examining my heater system(non-ac) today to figure out how to give it a little boost and ran into few heater illiterate questions. first off on the control in the dash it no matter where i set the slides it seems to only have one speed on blower motor. should this have more than one speed? another thing i noticed is a huge magnet on side of heater box inside by the door that directs where to blow out at. whats this magnet for? is it to help door shut easier inside vent or something? also on same piece there is a resistor screwed to it and was wondering what it is(speed control?). trying to go through it as last winter it took forever defrost winshield. all the vents are sealed tight and it has new hoses and heater core so id say it has to be blower motor as it just kinda seeps out but i know fan is turning just turning slow like on low. any ideas so i dont have to wipe winshields with t shirt while driving next winter:)

forgot to add is there any benefit to adapting to a blower motor off a newer truck as in air flow or are they pretty much same rpm?

The blower should have a 3spd switch on your air fan control. They are low, med, and high. Mine only works on med and high, but I don't care, if I have it on it's definetly gonna be on high! :D The switch you have might be bad.
