Slight electrical bug
 
I went to start my rig today and got a quick blip on the starter and then nothing. No juice to anything on the truck. I checked battery cables (they are good), battery checked out, connections to the battery checked out, I removed the starter and found it to be wired correctly (mini-purple going to solenoid and batt positive going to main feed post). I checked the starter (1 year old mini) on my bench--bendix engaged, starter spun with no load. Connections to the battery were solid. Previous to removing the starter, I checked for voltage on the back of my ignition switch (two big red wires)--didn't get any voltage.

What am I missing? Truck stays in the garage...no rain--original wiring harness--no issues until today. It' s an automatic with a ZZ502.

Mike... I would check and see if there is voltage at the little junction block on the passenger fender.. (I have seen the terminal break and leave the insulator intact) ... but if good.. then check at the positive pole on the alternator.. if you have no voltage then there is most likely a break in the 12 gauge wire between the alternator or regulator (assuming you still have the original style alternator) and battery... if you have voltage there.. then I would proceed to the block on the firewall... you could either unbolt the wireharness and check the voltage.. (a 12 gauge red wire).. Or poke a test light through the insulation on the wire..
Hope my attempt at describing was not too confusing..
If you have any questions feel free to give me a call.. Its easier for me to describe it verbally than writing it..

It all makes sense. I replaced the wiring from the small junction block on the batt side to the alternator which is now a CS144 (internally regulated). I thought I tested at the alt post before removing the starter and didn't show but a few volts. Unfortunately a few other things showed up after removing the starter which will require some attention. Thanks for the reply---

I don't know, I have to pull the headers and retorque my heads before I can put everything back together to check where the problem was/is. I also need to re-shim the starter--

By the way does anyone know how many of what kind of shims are used on geared mini starter that came on the ZZ502?
