Do Ford Wheels fit on GM (8 lug)
 

Did a search and came up with limited results.........

Specifically, do OEM Ford 16" 8 lug/bolt steel wheels fit on GM?

I just picked up a '72 K20 Suburban with stock OEM 16.5" steelies and would like to keep it rollin' on steelies......searched the junkyard and found some early Ford steelies, hope they fit.
I thought I remember hearing something about Ford and Dodge fit on a GM but GM will not fit on Dodge or Ford due to the center bore hole being smaller than the other two.

You need to look for the early to mid 90's ford rims, usually they were grey and about 9" wide. They will take a stock Chev or GMC hub cap and look pretty good. i am not sure about the early ford wheels.

(whisper mode) yes they do work and they did work on my old 69 Chev. But on some truck the center hole rides on the hub and this is the weight bearing surface for the wheel.

I don`t think the center-bore is crucial.Custom wheels are mae to fit all,so on GMs they don`t bear on hub.Never had,or heard of,a problem.I have Ford Wheels on my Highlander.

ford and dodge have a larger center hole than a chevy,i have used ford rims on my chevy's with no problems,and that was with 38" super swampers.

the new ford 8 lug do not fit. I dont know the specific years but ford changed their 8 lug pattern a few years back and now its a one off specificaly for ford.

The rims on my 4x4 3/4 ton are stamped with the Chrysler logo and they fit fine.

I have the same problem. I'm wondering what will fit mine. I have an 8 lug K20. No tire shop will touch it. Why???

I'm suspecting it may be due to the 16.5" wheel(assuming you have 16.5").......seems as if that size is being fazed out.

.......follow up to my dilema.....I did find some Ford stock steelies with Goodyear Wranglers (285/85-16) at the JY for $100. They work, if a little big though :)

My guess would be that they are split rims. Most tire shops are not equipped to deal with split rims anymore. They don't have the inflation cages.

Unless you are doing an absolute concours-type resto, get rid of any split rims...they are very dangerous.

I used to work at a truck tire shop back in the mid 80's, Their are two kinds of split rims. The old style has the split in the middle of the rim. While inflating them you can't see if the rim is seated together. They must be placed in a safety cage or bolted to the truck. No way to tell if they will stay together during inflation. I have seen them come apart and blow the leaf springs off the rear end! The new style has a ring on the outer part of the rim. During inflation you can watch the ring seat. My guess is you have old style, I would replace them with newer one peice wheels. I would get rid of the split rim altogether. B.B.

Those are the 8x170mm from superdutys... specific to 99 and later ford hd F250's and F350's. Every other 8 lug I'm aware of is the standard 8x6.5.

This is what I'm trying to accomplish. Any thought on how to get a nice look without changing axels and rotors. I'll take the advice.

Putting Ford parts on your Chevy could cause an upset Chevy! Now Fords do well with Chevy parts but I do not think Chevy's like to be cross bread with a Ford part on "them". :lol:
