tire size? 295/50 vs.295/60

Hey folks,

I think I'll be lowering my 87 shor wide this year. Most likely 3/4. So what's the better tire size for a 15/8" rally 295/50/15 or 295/60/15 or do you have any suggestions. I dont want it to look puny in the wells. I'm running 30/9.50's bfg at's now, they fiil the wells nicely but are way to skinny. How about some thoughts. HOw are folks doing it? are you running even wider in the back??? How wide can I go front back?? any pics.

thanks

The net diffrence of the two is the 295 70 is about an inch taller.

You can compair any size tires you want at this site. It helped me with a visual aid. Its a customized tire size calculator for you to compare your current tire size to a new and different size tire, or any two tire sizes you might think of (well, within reason)

I would suggest the 285/70 BFG Radial T/A. It is a tall and wide tire. That may be a little big on an 8" wheel.

My son's truck (86 Chevy short wide bed)and my truck (84 GMC short wide bed), both have 295/ 50/ R15 tires on the rear, with 245/60/R15 tires on the front. These are mounted on 15X8 rims with a four inch drop in the rear and a 3 1/2 inch drop in the front. There is plenty of room for the wider tire.

Thanks for the photo's.

Is there a reason to go thick thin. Will 295's fit up front or do the thinner tires just look better up there.

You can put 295s up front, but the fender will suffer at the ride height that the trucks are in the photos. I looked at all of the combinations before I finally settled on the combinations that we are using. I have a lot of Hot Rod Power Tour miles (rough roads) on the black truck with those tires and no complaints.
