73 caddy eldorado steering column swap, any one ever done one?

I have a 72 caddy Eldorado with a tilt and telescope column in it, has anyone ever looked at installing one of these in there truck?

*bump*

Sounds cool! The big question is: Will it work?

Don't know.........currently hooking up a 65 Cad tilt/tele on my friend's 56 Chevy......seems to be ok for us.

where the column mounts behind the cluster will need the small locating tab removed. then it will fit but looks funny with the empty space around the bottom. otherwise fits great.

empty space? can't picture what you mean ...

i believe he is talking about the black boot that normally covers the column-to-dash gap not fitting anymore.

shifty 03-30-2005 05:15 PM

I don't even think I have a black boot on my column.

Right about now, I'll do anything to get my steering wheel off my crotch while I'm driving.

i set 1 up for a cab i am working on. used late model cad that had floor shift for upper half. grafted on truck lower column and made it to truck length. bolt in deal. but like was mentioned here, your lower shift collar that has the lever will probably be a problem. with the floor shift model, i eliminated the lower bowl and the larger diameter housing with the tilt and turn lever is right against the instrument cluster. anything is possible if you are willing to do it. the stock column is too far in my face for my liking and it is hard to see the bottom gauges. this column colapses 2 inches and when all the way out is stock length. i accomplished the same thing on my truck by shortening a van column. the column was shortened 2 inches and the shaft shortened 4 1/4 inches. love it. just right.
