anyone using block hugger headers on 4x4's?
 

I am thinking of doing away with my full length headers and going with a good quility block hugger style header for more clearence around my clutch linkage and a cleaner look. Anyone using them on your trucks? If so can you post pics and tell me what brand they are?

72 BLAZERMAN tried a set on his blazer but they hit the engine mounts. I don't remember what brand he tried though...

Flowtech makes a set of big block headers that are designed for a 4x4 truck in our years. They are listed around $170 and are (if I remember correctly) 1 and 3/4 inch diameter. They are the full length type however, but from what I was told by a speedshop that I spoke with about them "They fit beautifully" and "Do not interfere with anything"... I would take that with a grain of salt of course...

Sanderson Headers is who you want for block huggers. Top notch but a little pricey.

I wondered about block-huggers on my 4wd w/4spd,too.But,really what I want are long headers that I know will work(clear).

I'm looking for headers as well. I put a 454 with a NV4500 and the NP205 in a 1966 Suburban. I think that the first year of 4X4 with a factory big block was 1973. I have tried about 4 or 5 different ones before I "made" my own. I ended up having to cut the tube at the #7 cylinder and re-route it to clear the Z-rod for the clutch linkage. It does not look very pretty and I would love to have a set of full length headers that fit..... I have heard that the block huggers do not give the positive performance aspects of the full length headers, I have no idea whether or not that it true.

I am about to install these same headers...12 years after this post :)

Did you have to put a bead of silicone on before installation - and let it harden/sit overnight before bolting up the headers?
