Looking for best Carb My Setup

This is a list of things that I am working with and I was hoping someone here could tell me the best carb or TBI setup to go with.
My truck is a 67 SWB stepside.
A new rebuilt '71 307 back to stock with standard bore.
Ramhorns with 2 1/4' outlets
2 1/4' dual out with flowmasters
1.6 roller rockers
Wieand Stealth Alum. intake
200 4R trans
3.73 in it now, or I have a 3.08 I can put in.
HEI factory dist.

I am looking for the best of all three worlds. :ww: Great mileage, Power, and little funds. Lokking more towards good mileage.
Any and all help would greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Stephen

A quadrajet would be best IMO. I have a 1406 I wish I would have never bought it. Should have had the Quad rebuilt.

i highly recomend the edelbrock/carter carb.
easy to tune, well designed & it keeps it's tune.
if you can afford a NEW quadrabog get it.can't be beat.
the rebuilds can be spotty.
get a 625/650 cfm carter edelbrock.you'll be happy.
jegs sells carters still for like $190.

1405 or 1406 Edelbrock or Carter. .I believe Edelbrock also makes a 550 CFM... You would be VERY happy with it on your combination.

a Holley 600 would also suffice, But I still personally prefer Edelbrock over Holley. I personally don't like Q-Js..

The choke on the 1406 eldebroc Sucks Very temp sensitive. It makes the truck run thta about all.

You just cant beat a new Q jet though.

It is a 4 barrel.

Your going to get alot of opinions on this so here is mine. I put a new Edelbrock 1406 on my 307 about 3 1/2 years ago and haven't touched it yet. Somebody is probably going to tell me its out of adjustment or whatever. All I know is it starts everyday and I get about 14 mpg in my 2wd Blazer. I am sure someone could tune it and get better mileage but I work under the old idea " If it aint broke dont fix it. Bought a rebuilt Quadrajet ( rebuilt by Tomco) about 6 months ago for my sons truck and it already runs like crap. But thats just my experience. If you want mileage change that rear end. I have a 3.08 in my Blazer.

I would say go with a Edelbrock/Carter. My 1406 came outta the box went on the truck and with minor tuning runs like a champ. Whatever you do dont over do it... Your truck will run better with a small carb that is the right size, rather than just putting a huge carb on and tuning it down.

i too liked my 1406 on my 383 but I run strictly Holley's on my high performance engines. However, if I was putting together a healthy driver I'd run a Q-Jet.
