need some tranny help!
hey guys i am new on this site...i just purchased a 67 c-10...it has the 327 with a th350....the tranny leaks like a faucet! i just bought the new gasket for it and the pan is coming in a few days, the pan was really warped and mangled. Anyways, how difficult is it to do this job in the driveway.....I am mechanically inclined, but i just don't want to start something and then run through a major problem in the middle of it......also are there any tips for installing a pan and gasket? thanks guys :metal:

Pretty much straight forward, just DO NOT use RTV as a gasket sealer on a tranny pan, it can cause the gasket to squeeze out. If you want, you can glue the gasket to the pan with weatherstrip glue, don't put anything on the tranny side of the gasket.
Oh, and Welcome to the board from Virginia!! :metal: |
Welcome to the board from South Mississippi. I've had the best luck with rubber gaskets and no sealant. Just have to remember that it doesn't have to be much tighter than snugged up.

I've found that most tranny pan gaskets have bolt holes slightly smaller than the bolt. That way you can position the gasket on the pan and secure it there by slightly threading in the bolts to the gasket.
