1 Attachment(s)
Guys,
Lookin' for some input---considering selling my 71 Cheyenne Longbed. For those that have been around, know what I went through in doing my ZZ502 swap...here is the run down on the truck today-- 71 Long Bed 1/2 ton PB, PS Disk/drums Fresh 665 hp Solid roller ZZ502 (I have the dyno sheet) Fresh T400 New tires New Wheel Vintiques Chrome Ralley's BeCool Module cooling system Sun Tachometer upgraded 140 amp alternator ( listed here ) New 0 gauge custom battery and alternator cables Earthquake AMP and Rockford Fosgate 6.5's with CD player... Coated Hedman headers 3" madrel bent exhaust with H Pipe and two chamber flowmasters I have all reciepts regarding the motor, dyno, and swap. The truck sits on stock suspension. I have 10K in the motor and another 3-4K in the swap just for giggles. http://classicgmtrucks.net/forums/up..._1_1_28912.jpg http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/...T/DSC00025.jpg |
If you sell it, you will regret it.
|
I'm with Ogier....
It'll haunt you if you sell! It looks very hot btw. After extensive rebuild on my SBC 400, I wish I put the money toward a BB crate. I was thinking the 502 Ramjet. |
The motor makes the truck look good and perform I bet even better.
|
Need to know one thing--have you romped on it yet? (dead stop-foot to the floor-thru all the gears-back off only when you can't pucker anymore)
|
I've seen and heard this truck and it sounds awesome......Too bad your thinking about selling it Mike...Good luck....... :metal: :metal:
|
Wow Mike way cool.. Love that big block!! That would be a diffucult one to let go.. I would love to have it!! Want a Motorhome?? Or a 68 GMC 4X4?
What kind of mileage does it get.. LOL... Seriously.. are you sure you can give it up?? Mark |
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do but, economicaly at least -- not a chance you get out what you have in to this one. I fgure you'll get what... maybe 16K for this truck? You must have a minimum of 20K into it.
|
figure getting matbe half what you've got into it
|
You didn`t say why you want or need to sell it.As nice as that truck is and all you did to get it there,I`m sure you have your reasons.Good Luck.
|
Well--
Yes, I have romped on it---actually you don't have to romp on it to scare the beeejezzus out of the cars around you or set off car alarms...noone plays with me... :whine: Seriously though, if it goes I will have or build one better and faster...I need to free up some play money for some upcoming investments... My Chevelle is going back up for sale too.... http://www.speakeasy.org/~miket/DSC00016.JPG |
beautiful vehicles. what's the specs and price on the chevelle? you can email me at bpursley@esc14.net
|
I certainly could be wrong, but I don't think it's the lifters that are the problem with solid rollers on the street, not if you get the isky red zones that is.... from what I've read it's the intense valve spring pressures that are hard on all the upper valve train parts and valve seats that make them "iffy" on the street.... That being said, I've never run or known anyone that has run a solid roller on the street, I'm just passing on what I've read..... cheers.

That's a nice engine combo! I am doing one similar to your 496 but not that cam! Give's me hope my Torque rating will be what I desire to tow with up the Grapevine!! :bo2: |
Thanks RPOZ11! I gave up at least 50HP by going with this small :D cam.... The heads I've got on this engine flow REALLY good above .600 lift... I'm not taking advantage of that :(
Did you guys notice what happened on this post? I responded to SweetandLong68's post and it put his after mine. Check out the date on his post.... and it keeps staying on the bottom! |
It's a mild solid for a 502...I don't believe ALL the hype about solids on the street...it also depends on what you mean by street too and the build and parts combo of your motor that makes it last.
|
Hey Mike, I have to say again, that is a beautiful engine. If you don't mind, where did you get that dipstick and what brand are your plug wire retainers?

It's all included with the ZZ502...if you call Tom at Sallee Chevrolet he can set you up with those parts. You get them free when you buy my truck. |

BTW: My old college roomates name was Mike Turner, does that mean I get a discount? :D |

Hey guys,
I dont know what happened with my post or the dates....Weird I guess... I love BBC but I have seen too many EAT lifters running solid roller cams on the street...Maybe going with a small cam like you did maybe it will live longer. Most solid roller cams I have seen are pretty large cams so that might be the difference. My super easy low buck combo... 454 bored 60 over stock crank and rods...with good ARP studs and bolts. SRP forged pistons stock oval port heads with a VERY mild cleanup behind the valves to remove casting flash also a cleanup and portmatch of the runners Lunati Solid lifter cam....Adv. Duration: 310°/320° Gross Lift: .558''/.566'' RPM Range: 2500-6500 Weiand Team G intake with Holley 850 cfm double pump carb. Turbo 400 trans with a 3500 stall and 3.73 gears... This exact combo took my brother's 72 Nova to 6.80s in the 1/8th on the motor running pump gas 93 octane ...10.3 to 1 compression. Dang good combo for not much money. lata CHRIS |
Well we are getting off topic but I had my Chevelle for 3+ years---driven occassionally on the street---12-1 CR, Solid Roller .698 lift, stud girdle etc.. (obviously not pump gas)
I haven't had an issue yet---not sure whats happening to these other "solid rollers"... |
Definately not a daily driver combo.I hear ya.How much "street" driving do these builds run,a few hundred a year?
Now about the Chevelle,OOOOOOH!!!! |
