need help truck still wont start
yesterday morning my truck wouldn't start so i replaced the cap and rotor because they looked pretty bad and then it fired right up. this morning i went to start it and it tried to fire once and that was it. what is wrong with it?

check for sparkplug firing and if none then check for 12 volts at the Bat terminal on the distributor if you have a voltmeter. You can run a hot wire from the battery positive terminal to the Bat terminal on the distributor and turn the key and try to start the engine. You may have a bad feed wire to the distributor. Since you have changed the cap and rotor and it fired up I'd say it's in the ignition system not fuel or compression.

well i've you've got points i'd say it would be a good time to set the dwell these type distributors need regular maintenance to run properly//set gap on plugs too

I've had more than one set of new points that wouldn't fire an engine. Just a thought that shouldn't be overlooked IMO.

The module in the HEI distributor can go bad. Most auto parts stores can test them for you. If you do need a new one, make them test it before you leave with it.
