GMC upholstery???

Where could I see pictures of factory 72 GMC upholstery? Where they the same as Chevy? Who sells them?

special-K 10-05-2005 10:27 PM

The upgrade seats are the same. Not sure about the base-line pattern.

What is option 607, Blue Cloth trim? Is this referring to the upholstery? If it is, which upholstery is this?

special-K 10-06-2005 07:22 AM

Was that on a SuperCustom?Which would be the same as CustomDeluxe Chevy.I had a`70 CustomCamper/30 that was a frame-mount Winnebago. It had cloth inserts that Winnebago put in.I don`t know the codes, but if it`s not the SuperCustom cloth,it could be some "by request" special cloth ordered by a camper manufacturer. This is a stab in the dark, just a thought.

It's a super custom 20, camper special. So, would the stock upholstery be the cloth houndstooth inserts, just like what LMC pictures in their catalogues?
How well do they wear and is it difficult to take care of? Where is a good place to purchase these quality and value wise? So many questions. Thanks for the help.

From the "GMC 1972 Truck Colors and Trims" book:

Bench Seats Available:
1. Standard Seat is the all vinyl
2. GMC Super Custom Interior Z62 is vinyl and cloth (best of them all IMHO) the cloth is not the houndstooth, but maybe 2" (?) repeating patterned texture w/lines
3. GMC Sierra Z84 is all vinyl with padding in the seat and back sections.
4. GMC Sierra Grande YE9 is the vinyl and houndstooth
5. Suburban Super Custom Z62 has a different cloth pattern and texture

Sorry, no pics available.
All but #2 & #5 is available in the aftermarket that I know of.
Yes, same as Chevy.

What I know about the 72 model year of GMC interiors is this. Your truck is a Super Custom, and as another responder mentioned that is the same trim level as its counterpart Chevy Custom Deluxe. If your truck does not have the special promotional option ( Highlander ) then the cloth is a nylon type with straight lines and a pattern running between each set of lines. If it does have the Highlander package then it is a blue, black, and off white plaid pattern and is more of a cotton fabric.
The equivalent GMC interior to a Chevrolet Cheyenne Super would be a Sierra Grande. They both featured the houndstooth pattern in the cloth, and were the top of the line but not used on the Super Custom GMC or Custom Deluxe Chevy.
Your interior cloth and vinyl are available from SMS auto fabrics in Oregon. I have purchased the same exact pattern material exept in parchment color. If you would like information on them send me a pm and I will get it to you. In the meantime I will work on getting you the correct material #'s from the Detroit 1972 interior book which a friend of mine that owns a upholstry shop has.
Further more. I have an original 1972 GMC light truck brochure, and it probably has some detailed pictures in it. Again if you are interested send me a pm and I will scan and e-mail to you.

Options sticker

Here is the pic of my options sticker. I am just curious what it originally came with and what it looked like and if it was a good fabric (strong and easy to take care of). A pic would be nice. It currently has plain blue vinyl which looks dull. I don't mind the vinyl with scrolls and pleats, I think they look good. I may end up using non-stock bucket seats but before I do would like to see what the stock upholstery looks before I get rid of my bench. If I like the look, I may keep my bench seat.

I know what highlander looks like but I have never seen the GMC fabric pattern you guys are describing.

Tim if you have a picture of a seat with this fabric, I'd like to see it also. PM sent.

Here's a pic from my 72 Sierra Grande:

Try this URL for the bench seat line up:

http://www.chevyduty.com/frame-truck-years.html

Yours is 2nd from the right. But, it is not a good picture of your seat and does not do it justice. I had a seat like yours in the blue and it was beautiful.

Try this URL for swatches and prices (this might be the fabric only? not a seat cover kit):

smsautofabrics.com is the website. You can request a swatch from them, they have a form.I need to do a Highlander plaid seat and they have the fabric. An upholsterer will have to remove the seating area and stich-in your fabric to a Cheyenne/Sierra or CheyenneSuper/SierraGrande cover.Talk to the shop first to see which they would rather work with.I`m guessing the cloth.

I think I may have found a cover for the CustomDeluxe. No sure if it is the same pattern but Ecklers shows a custom Deluxe cloth bench seat cover for $318.99. For comparrison, they list their Cheyenne cloth bench seat cover for $238.99 . I wrote them to send me a pic of the cloth pattern for the Custom Deluxe.
Roger, thanks for the pics and others for the links and information.
