Funmudder Bought His First Truck!!!!!!!!!!

Thats right, I got my first truck yesterday and I absouloutely LOVE IT!!! It's a 68 GMC 2500, 4x4. It has an excellent running 305 V6 with new dual exhaust, and a FACTORY TACHOMETER. All new power drum brakes, manual steering :barf:, new fuel pump and alternator, 4-speed granny, and some kind of "ungodly big transfer case" in it that jumps out of gear if you back up . It also has 17" two piece wheels on it, and came with 6 more 2 piece wheels and tires, and a 8 foot Fisher plow. Its all street legal with a new sticker in July. The body is extremely solid for a 68. No rust in the rockers, cabcorners, etc. Only rust is on the bottom of the ditch side fender, but nothing serious. I'll get more pics when it stops raining.

I plan on giving it a new paint job, and some 16inch rims for spring summer and fall.17's will do good in the snow. I am keeping the six :metal:, until it breaks down . Its an awesome engine with a lotta grunt. I might put a 500 holley 2barrel on it. No lifts on it or anything.

WHO WANTS TO GUESS WHAT I PAID FOR IT?????????

Now "that" is a truck. What a work horse! It's hard to believe that you found such a solid truck in your area.

I'll guess 1500.00. I know it's worth a bunch more but I'm assuuming you got it for a steal....:)

Congrats! Looks solid. I'm "green" w/ envy about the rust free part!!!

BTW - my eyes may deceive me but I bet the truck would stop better if vacuum were running to the brake booster. (might save you a front clip and a ticket) just looking out for you.

That is a very solid looking truck - what a find. You must have got a smokin deal - I'm gonna die if you got it for less than $1,000 cause it's worth alot more than that!

The transfer case should be the Rockwell T-221 that looks like

What rear axle does it have?

Okay, the guys above noticed the booster vacuum line missing....so here is my observation.....
Looks like you also got an extra gas cap that matches the body color (Look in the photos of the driver's side rocker panel and notice just in front of the seat adjustment lever!!!!)
Looks like a pretty stout rig.

They were put in GMC trucks. I think it began in the early or mid sixties. It's supposedly a very stout dependable motor.

Man, what a great find, and in MAINE??? That's awesome. Enjoy it!

Re: Funmudder Bought His First Truck!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed you said a factory tach but didn't see one in the dash. If it is one that came with it, make sure it is for a 6 cyl. Nice lookin ride by the way!!

There should be a belt driven hydraulic fluid pump/resevoir mounted somewhere there and it's probably part of the bracketry for it. The plow pump valve body is mounted under the hood on the LH inner fender by the looks. There are cables leading from the joystick in the cab to the vlave body, then hydraulic lines off the valve body to the plow frame lift and blade angle hydraulics.

I hope that reverse 4x4 disengagement problem is a simple fix, a 4x4 plow truck with only 2wd reverse ain't worth a damn which why it went cheap. Yankee mentality say "Truck no work, truck no use". It's all about utility value up here. Plow setup alone is probably worth at least $500. I'm guessing with it's problems you paid around $750 for it.

It does look like a good start and with some fixing it'll be a good yard dog. I'm a little leary of the newer paint as evidenced by overspray. You won't be able to kill that 305 V6 or kill yourself with it (speed is not it's selling point ;) )

All in all, it looks to be fairly unmolested, good score.

Nice! My only suggestion is to remove those late 80's/early 90's "4x4" stickers off of the bed. IMO.

Otherwise, pretty sweet. Check to make sure you have plenty of gear lube in the transfer case or the input bearing will jump ship...not that I know from experience, or anything:rolleyes:

sweet score!

Re: Funmudder Bought His First Truck!!!!!!!!!!

Check out the plow frame and push plates. It looks to be a later model fisher plow setup. The vintage correct setup is a bolt-on unit. It should be bolted to the frame, not welded anywhere.

TP, I just put my 67 GMC 2500 with a 351E V6 on ebay. Had it in the classified here for a few weeks, so auction just went up yesterday:
