Carb/trans. linkage question PICS!!
 

On my son's '71, we were looking at the engine and realized the trans. linkage was not hooked up to the carb and a vacuum line disconnected but could not find where it hooks up, any ideas?? Can someone shoot me a few pics of the correct way they shoud be connected? The linkage does not seem long enough to connect to the holes in the carb linkage. The engine runs great other than not kicking into passing gear when you get into it.

You are missing a ball and stud for the kickdown cable. Not sure about that vac line.

I came up with the ball and stud but I just can't stretch that cable long enough to hook it to the stud. It's like it's about 1" too short. Any ideas?

where the kickdown cableis attached to the engine (bracket) the black housing on top there is a piece that prys up. use a screwdriver to pry it up. when it is up, you should be able to pull that cable out. Once its re-connected, have a helper press down the accelerator(with engine off!) for 2 seconds then push tab back down. Should be properly set then. Test drive it and if not right keep playing with it! youll get it right!:metal:

I hate to sound like an idiot,but I tried adjusting the cable to connect to the ball stud and it will not give me enough length. I pried the clip up and the cable released, but it still will not pull out far enough to connect. Can someone shoot me a pic of one connected, and if anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears.

It's not supposed to be a ball stud for the kick-down. Its more of a post with a groove cut around it. It looks like a PO swapped carbs and didn't bother trying to match up the linkage. Usually you have to loosen the kick-down cable bracket or loosen the carb in order to slipt the end over the post on the carb. Thats so it doesn't slip off while driving.

I think you have a 2bbl. kick-down bracket and a 4bbl. carb.

When I built my 383 it replaced a functioning 2bbl. carb/th350 kick-down setup. I put an edelbrock 4bbl carb on the new engine. There was no way that 2bbl kick-down bracket holder was going to work. I bought an aftermarket (edelbrock) adjustable (universal) bracket holder.

You can either go that route or find a 4bbl bracket in the yard.

The cables are the same 2 or 4 bbl.
