Cab is painted and back on the frame
 

Our auto body class is separated into two shops. The smallest is for the first year class and the larger for the second. Both paint booths are on the second year side, so this morning we had to roll my chassis around the building and into the second year shop where we mounted my cab onto the frame. It looks a little funny, but a buddy sat on the front cross member and steered with one hand on the steering gear box while we pushed it back to my shop. I did manage to get a couple of outside shots and the sun was actually shining here for a change.

Cab looks great!..cant wait till i get to that point. I was thinkn about taking an autobody class next quarter at the college that im goin to and was wonderin what its like. i know it wont be exactly like the one ur taking but should be similar. Do u get a lot of time to work on your truck or is it just a lot of lecturing and doing the work on your own time??

Love that color, looks pretty nice. So are you an auto-body instructor or a student. I wish we had an auto body class in my school. All we do in my automotive class is change the oil in teachers' cars. I plan on working on some stuff for my truck to make the class more interesting and maybe let those kids in the class that think rice burners are cool learn something about real cars.

By the way, did I say nice truck you have there.

I am a student at Northland community technical college. They offer a two year course in auto body, so at 42 I took an early retirement from law enforcment and went back to school. The first year of the program started with hands on learning of the basics (dent removal, products, metal prep and so forth), then after the first quarter we got to bring in our own projects. We work on our own stuff until a class projects comes in. We have repaired and repainted a number of vehicles for local people. I have to drive 59 miles one way to class every day, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

That truck is looking great. Did you spray it yourself ? Who ever did was good no runs on the inside around the light. Nice to see another leaf sprung truck.

So it takes you a hour to get to class but how many days a week do you go ?

Looks great, I hope to take some courses (but it's gonna be hard since I work a rotating shift). That's got me thinking about doing it anyways.:D

I have to go to class five days per week. It is a real pain to drive that far everyday, but the more I do, the better I get. Also, the question was asked if I did the painting. Yes, I have done all the work myself.
Today I spent the morning spraying the floor with Raptor lining. It is a cheaper version of the Rhino material only somewhat harder. I thought that if I sprayed the floor and inner cab corners, I wouldn't have to worry about future water damage. It also makes a good sound deadening material. I will carpet the truck, but you can never have too much corrosion protection.

That funny I did the exact same thing to my floor. I actually used it as the floor till I had the cash for carpet. I think mine was Hippo liner.

How much work does the rest of the body need before it's ready for paint ?

Well, I also lined the underside of the inner fenders at the same time today. I then sprayed gloss black on the radiator support and the tops of the inner fenders. The front fenders, grill, cowling and hood are done and in primer just waiting to be wet sanded and painted. I still have the stepside bed to repair. I picked it up in OK over the Christmas break. No rust through, but some dents and the wood floor is shot. I've thought about putting down a piece of diamond plate for a bed floor and lining it all. I still do not have an engine or tranny, but have a 68 LWB in mind. It has a 283 with a two speed PG as a donor.

Nice cab. Looks like you started with a nice one. Were the rockers and corners good? If not you did a nice job on them.

The cab was in pretty good shape to start with, but I did replace both rockers, both cab corners and one cab support. Thanks for the compliments.
