big block in a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 help me out on mounts and fitment
 

I am going to put a 502 in a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 I was told that with the stock sbc mounts it will not fit. Is this true? will be running a small msd distributor and I would like not to cut or beat the firewall in. :fb: CAN YA HELP A BROTHER OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the board.
A body lift will help tons.... as a matter of fact, if you refuse to beat the firewall... I think a body lift will be the only way to do this.

I used a 3" on my panel and it was barely enough,though it was a 67 panel on a 69 surbuban frame.

What you'll find on these trucks it that there is a huge amount of variation from one to the next. It results in somebody not having to touch the firewall with a BB and 2" of body lift, but the next truck might have to scallop the firewall in 3" with the same lift kit. No way to know until you do it. On my Blazer, I used a 3" body lift when I installed my 496 with tall valve covers and I had to cut & weld in large patch panels to clear the covers. The distributor was clear by a mile though. If you're able to do little body work, the mods are relatively simple and look really clean when done:metal: .

My 70 has a 454 w/short covers and with no body lift I did the build panel bit. HEI dist clears but not much room on wires (1/8 in. maybe). Just like Big Bad 1972 Blazer said it seems to vary by truck.

The best thing is to try it!My 71 suburban has a BB in it.No body lift or firewall work.It has short valvecovers.They clear by about an 1/8th inch.

Basically what I did is connect all three together and dropped the transfer case in the original holes; this gave me plenty of firewall clearance with the BB, with no other mods like body lift. All I had to do was move the motor mounts forward and drill new holes. Hope this helps a little?
