OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...1/gmctahoe.jpg
Its a 2 door suburban-tahoe something I have no idea but it got my attention. Has big 1/4 windows and is mostly there I think but in bad shape. Anyone no much about it? |
Re: OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking

No I took that one with my cell. Next time I'm there I'm taking my camera and getting some better pics and ask about it.

Re: OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking
they were all 2 door up to, and including 66, then in the 67 - 72, they were 3 door, and 73 on up are all 5 door.
Even though that's how they were all made, you'd be amazed at how many 'rare' 3 door burbs, and 'rare' 2 door burbs we hear about. Got a guy with an old rusted out POS burb, a 69 with a 396... he will NOT come off of it becouse of that rare door thing. |
Re: OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking
My grandfather had a 3 door 68 with a 350 and 3 speed. Sucker would lay some scratch. We bought it later. No power brakes or steering. Dont think I could drive it now lol.

Andy,What do you mean,"73 and up are all 5 door"?If you`re counting the rear end, then the 66 and earlier are 3 door and the 67-72s are 4,right?I call the`73ups 4 door.
I have a question. When did Chevy stop calling them Carryalls and start calling them Suburbans? |
Re: OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking
so is the one in my pic a 64?
Its at a 'yard so no telling how much is missing, probably no tittle either. |

Carryall, also called panels, didnt' have any windows on the side, just the doors and the back door winders. Suburbans had the windows down the side, like this one. |
Re: OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking
Panels were called panels. The carryall name was definately for the passenger vehicles. The panels may have also been called carryalls, but not to my knowledge.IH called their wagons Travelalls,a take-off on Carryall.I`m just wondering when they stopped calling themCarryalls and started the Suburban name.I`ve owned a`46 and a`54 Carryall.

Re: OLD GMC I saw today 50's 2 door tahoe looking
"Carryall" was a Chevy name, Suburban was used by Both GMC & Chevy. I use to have a 1964 Chevrolet Suburban Carryall brochure, but I gave it to a chevy guy for a websit ethat never came to be....foolish me.
All my GMC brochures call them Suburban with out the use of Carryall anywere. The Panel truck BTW was an option for PICKUPS, that's how it was listed in the dealer data books, and Suburban were listed by them self's. So if you wanted a Panel you had to order a piuk up with the option #0120 to get a panel. You can find all the info you need about that Suburban in the weeds by looking at my website, link below. And lets drop that "Tahoe" name right now, that a 90s GMC thing. |

And that sub in the original pictures is a 1966, due to the squared off grill letters "GMC". 1965 and earlier GMCs had more rounded letters.
