Rust rail...

Err, I mean drip rail. Anybody know a good way to keep it from rusting worse or leaking until I get ready to paint the whole truck? I was thinking about knocking the scales off, and then putting a bead of caulk around it. Any opinions?

I used Jasco Metal Etch, nasty stuff. Brushed it on, 15 min later washed it off, wire brushed down to metal. Used an epoxy primer, for any future possible rust leaking through the paint. Before the color coat, I applied a caulking, for metal gutters, the hard drying kind. Been two years and no problems.
