Looking at buying a project '70 LB.
 

Hi all, new to the board, me and the girlfriend are looking at restoring a 70-72 Chevy truck and we found one but was wondering on rarity, as we don't know much about them. We found a '70 LB, the body needs rockers, cab corners and the floor of the box has some holes in it. Was curious of the rarity of power brakes, power steering and full gauge package? It has a mint front grill and front drum brakes and no trans/engine. All for the price of $500 cdn.

Welcome to the board from southern Mississippi. It sounds like you got a typical starter truck and price seems reasonable also. Good luck and have fun (I know I do) bringing her back to life. Are they rare? No, But, are they CLASSIC? yes....the best IMO.

Another welcome from South Mississippi! Sounds like an average deal (but I'm not an expert on the northenr market.) Patch panels are easy to find.

Ah cool, just talked to the guy, got it for $300.00 Going to pick it up with the flat deck tomorrow. Both tires are flat on the back, am going to bring some to swap, is the 5 bolt pattern the same as on the newer 73-87 chev trucks?

Going to post some pics tomorrow of the new rig after I pick it up. :metal:

Welcome to the board...lots of great info in here. Congrats on the impending '70 buy...mine has PS & PB as well. That sounds like a great price! How much is that in US dollars?

If the rear is original, it'll be 6 lug, like the later 4X4 trucks were.
power steering and brakes are pretty common on the 69 and up... in my experiances, they are more like the norm on v-8 powere trucks. Seems only the penny pincher inline trucks had the non power assist.

What you planning on installing under the hood? (A caddy 500 fits in there pretty easily)

oh 6 lug on 2wd? Wierd :confused: I guess it'll be dragged up with flat tires. Was thinking for under the hood a 350 from my old Nova and the 700r4 from my 82 chev half ton for the overdrive, but who knows hehe, big block sounds like fun. Going to be a fun project for both of us to work on, my fiancee is as excited as I am!

$300 cdn is $271.44 us funds.

yup, all 70 and older trucks had 6 lug on them. Being a 70, odds are you could simply slide in some 5 lug axles into the rearend and toss new drums on it... but there is a chance that you wouldn't be able to do it though.

would be cool, was thinking of doing a disc brake swap anyhow. T-minus 12 hrs till I pick 'er up.

$300 is a great deal. I'm new to the board too and just bought a 1970 Chev C10 as well. The first thing I'm going to upgrade is power disk brakes, and P/S. Full crossmember swap from a 73-87 truck. I'll be paying more than $300 just to get to the point you're starting at.

Picked it up today, took about 2 hrs to load it, nothing but greif with 4 flat tires.

Anyone ever heard of brake drum shields??? :confused:

On really old stuff Andy, the brake Drum Sheilds were just what we call the drums today. I wonder if they were still using that term because it was a Canadian truck?

Thats a pretty good deal for $300. I paid $1000 for mine and it was in worse shape. You might think you will just have like rockers and cab corners to do, but when you start taking stuff apart you'll find more stuff that needs attending, trust me. But thats the fun of it all. I hope you guys enjoy yourself with your new truck.

Welcome aboard. Great site for all your questions on these rigs. I would a dropped $300 easy on that truck... ya done good. Hang on to that fiance of yours, getting ones that like to be involved in truck building are hard to find.
