Ignition wire question
 

Hi all,

So my truck is getting no + on the starter. I looked at the wire and it's pretty bad, has some areas where the insulation is striped off. So, I went and pulled off the engine compartment side of the fuse block and had my wife turn the key to the start position. What gets me is there is no voltage coming from the purple wire's lead on here as well. I figured I should get signal there, so now I am confused. Someone let me know if I am losing it, or if I need to trace this in the cab as well if I am not getting 12+ here.

Are you getting 12V across the battery terminals? How about across the cables on the battery posts, next across the ends of the cables.

check the purple wires on the reverse switch mounted at the base of the column..hope this help's mark:metal:

OK,

I should have given a better break down. Here is what I did check that had 12V positive:

Across battery terminals
Negative terminal - wire post on inner fender just behind the battery
Battery cable on starter - ground point under truck.

Also, the fuel pump turned on, which means that the fuse box had power (it is jumped off one of the non fused links on the box)

Lights worked, so that side of the harness under the hood worked.

I checked, and have no blown fuses anywhere.

I think tomorrow I will look where Mark said, as well as trace the wire all the way back to the key wire harness.

I agree with Mark, if it's an automatic, that is the first place I'd look.
If it is a stick, or if the safety switch checks good, then unplug the harness on the back of the ignition switch, and look for burning/melting/corrosion. it's somewhat common-ish.

Mark was dead on, loose wire at the base of the steering column. Thanks guys!
