406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

2 Attachment(s)
406

509 block (2 bolt main with ARP studs) with eagle 6" H-beams and eagle crank. Deck has plugs for strength but steam holes are open. Brass freeze plugs. Flat top Hypereutectic pistons which are very light, engine is INTERNALLY balanced. Static compression 10.5:1. Lunati hydraulic cam specs: http://www.holley.com/07104LUN.asp

Edelbrock Victor Jr. with a custom-built Holley 750 vac sec carb, Pro Topline 220 cc aluminum heads with stainless valves and crane aluminum roller rockers on head studs. Polished aluminum timing cover over Cloyes double roller. 8 quart oil pan. SFI flexplate. Weiand aluminum water pump. MSD Pro Billet distributor.

This motor has 400 miles on it and is nicely tuned. It does not overheat and can break the tires loose going into EVERY gear. I can smoke the tires from a stop and once it finally hooks up, it smokes the tires all over again when it shifts into second gear, then when it hooks up in second gear it does the same thing going into third.

That brings me to the tranny. 700R4 nicely built with good innards and 2500 stall convertor.

Motor ready to run: $3000

With tranny: $3600

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

why are you selling it?

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Ya why sell it? And if I buy it you gonna bring it to me and swap it into my 85 for me? :D If I purchase I'd want the trans too, love those 700r4's that's for sure. Truck's currently got a tired 305/3 speed auto that I'm dying to replace...

I'm not that far from you, I'm about a mile from the Huntsville, AL city limit sign :)

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Selling because my 427 sbc is finished, dynoed, and ready to install. The tranny's going because my latest dyno numbers on the 427 hit 538 hp and 500 lbs. of torque. This 700R4 is very good, but not good enough for THOSE numbers.

I have a hankering for a pair of Sea Doos, so trades for those considered.

Oh, and by the way, it's still in the truck so it can be test driven.

Hah too bad you're not in the market for a pontoon :) got a pretty decent one I'm looking to sell for around $2200.

Anything that would be a real issue putting this into my 85? Wanna stay with SBC so I can keep the AC/etc without any major changes.

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

What size pontoon?? What engine brand and size?

Bolt-in no problem.

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

It's just a 20 footer with a 40 or 50 hp outboard, nothing fancy but always got us on the water when we found time to go.

so ed you moved to hendersonville, that's funny, thats where my parents have his boat and lives3-4 days a week. They are at creekwood marina. Since i last talked to you i ran across a swee deal on a fast burn 385, so im not as heavily in the market for a 406 but if you still have it next time im up there i will come by and take a look.

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Ok. But this 406 will run circles around a fast burn 385.

Weather and life kept me from getting fresh pics of that pontoon boat yet, also my other boat is on ebay (Item number: 130011817729) and looks like it should sell at a good price, so I am DEFINITELY interested in your motor/tranny.

What'll you charge to swap it into my truck for me? :) Gonna have to pay someone to do it since I'm no mechanic.

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Have neither the time nor the space right now to swap it for you. Sorry. But you can hear it run and drive it (total grin fest) so you know it's a nice motor and well-tuned.

Those Sea-Doos are gonna get some use in our(your new) neck of the woods. Ed if you need to do a swap you are more than willing to come to my place to do it. Don't have a lot of tools, but space is good.

Here's a ttt for you.

what engine trans do you have now. I may swap them out for yah. I am in unionville, tn about 60 miles south of ed

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Sounds like you're between me and Ed then :) I'm near Huntsville.

It has a pretty clean 305 and a 3 speed auto (350 I assume). The 305 is running good but has a slight miss at idle (sticking valve the PO said) and were it brand new it wouldn't have enough power</tim allen> for me. It runs fine and pulls nice and strong but I want more oomph!

So it'd be going from 305/th350 to 406/700r4 if you're interested, let me know, if I get the motor (and I'm just waiting on my boat to sell so I have the cash to make a solid deal with) I will have to pay someone to swap it.

Would consider a boat (19'+ FG or 20'+ Pontoon), but no junk.

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Are you keeping the headers or do those go with the motor?

ed455 08-01-2006 08:55 AM

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

I will be using the headers on the 427.

ed455 08-02-2006 02:10 PM

Re: 406 for sale - FRESH and STRONG

Would also consider a clean Suburban or crew cab in trade.
