Goodyear Wranglers for 50.00 at Wal-Mart.......
 

Not really a big Wally World fan BUT........... I was tire shopping yesterday and bought a set of Goodyear Wrangler radials for $ 50.00 each. They were running a special on my size ( 235-75-15 ) so I bought a set. If you need some tires you might give your local Wal-Martian tire center a call. FWIW , Dean

Yep, they have been that price for that size up here for a few months now, I don't need that size right now, but could buy a pair or two for future use, but it almost seems to good to be true. Anyone have any insight on these ???

Got my Uniroyal Tigers (255/70R/15) from Walmart at a great price also. $350.00 for 4 mounted, balanced & road hazard warranty included. Had to order them, but they didn't charge for shipping. I didn't take the truck down to have them installed. I just took them the rims. Didn't like the idea of some rookie driving my freshly painted truck up onto a lift.....

They may not be the same as a Goodyear Wrangler sold at a regular tire store. Our auto-center guy went over when we got a Super Walmart and looked at their tires. They have tires that are series' that he has never heard of...and he deals in tires!

What Walmart does is Goodyear comes to them and says, "We want you to sell our tires" and Walmart says, "We are going to sell you Wrangler for $50.00" Goodyear says, "We can't do that...It costs us $48.00 to make them." So Walmart says, "If you want our business, you will sell us a Wrangler that we can sell for $50.00" Then Goodyear makes a compromise somewhere in the manufacturing of the tire so they can have Walmart as a seller.

There was an excellent show on PBS a couple of months ago called "Is Walmart Good for America" that told the way some companies do business with Walmart.

It told the story of how Rubbermaid one year was one of the top companies in the country, and the next year was near bankrupcy. The reason was Walmart wanted them to sell their products for an insanely low price, and Rubbermaid said no because they would have to relocate their plant from the USA to overseas. They lost the Walmart contract and guess what...the next year they closed their plant and moved overseas.

Sorry for the rant, but make sure it's a Wrangler that is also sold at a reputable tire dealer...you may not be getting apples to apples, or Wranglers to Wranglers.

For what its worth, the last set of Goodyear tires I'll ever buy were a set of Wranglers on my truck.

After they were about a year old - and I don't put tons of miles on my truck - they were all cupped. Not long after that they were all cracked. The final straw was I had a blow out. It was funny to see the look on the littly chicky-poos face next to me in the rice burner. The thing blew about 5 feet from her face.

That was my 2nd blowout ever in 22 years of driving. Both blowouts were Goodyear products. I use other brands now.

I swore off Goodyears when the Eagles on my brand new 87 Mustang GT were cupping at 5,000 miles. I haven't bought any Goodyears in about 19 years. Maybe I should have stuck to my previous beliefs and done a little more homework before I made the purchase. I'll let you know how they do, good or bad. Dean

I put a set of $50 Wrangler's on my wifes full size van a couple of years ago and got about 30K miles before one had a blowout. The sidewall split open. Luckily my wife was only a couple of miles from the house and was not traveling fast. I rotated and checked the air pressure regularly. The $50 Wangler's are standard load rated tires and I now only get extra load or LT tires for my trucks and my wifes van (the vehicles just weigh to much for a standard load tire, IMO). I just put a set of Wally World Uniroyal Liberators 235/75/15 XL ($61.66 each) on my 93 GMC extended cab truck. So far, I like them but only time will tell.

I have a set of the Wal-Mart $50 Goodyear tires on my '94 Suburban. They have about 20- 25,000 miles on them and so far they are doing fine. They ride and handle better than the Tiger-Paw tires I had on it so I can't complain.

I almost refuse to shop at walmart for anything. Due to their business practices, as stated above. Yes, one can save a few dollars, if you don't mind an inferior product. My boss tries to get me to buy tires for my company truck there. Say's "their cheaper". I say...."Not after spending three hours there getting them put on, while I'm on the clock". I use independant tire stores exclusively. I support small business whenever I can. And go out of my way not to contribute to the Mall-ification of America.

As to the Goodyear debate. I've never had anything but good luck out of them. Had a set of factory take off's on a Burb years ago that lasted forever. Way more than 50,000 miles. And they were take off's from a new chevy truck. Maybe Chevy won't tolerate second rate parts on their vehicles? Like Ford and their Bridgestone/Firestone nightmare. Firestone is one tire I won't even carry as a spare. But that's another thread.

I hate to give them my money, but I couldn't come close to the price with anyone else anywhere. Maybe they are a lesser tire, but I doubt that I'll ever wear them that far down. My truck mostly sees trips to work (5 blocks), and trips to the auto parts or grocery store. (2 mi.)

My tires are more likley to become weather checked than wear out.

I know that when I had my monte carlo it had a set of continential tires on it that came from walmart, when I put my summer wheels on I stored the walmart tires in our shop on a tire rack, after setting there for 2 months one of the tires blew the tread off itself while on the rack, I have never seen that before and none of the tires were overinflated it freaked the crap out of me. It looked just like a semi retread coming apart, after hearing that I did some research and there are all kinds of horror stories about wal-mart tires. Anyway around here there is a reputable tire dealer who is a local guy and only a few dollars over what wal-mart wants for their version of the same tire. He has had people come from as far away as central illinois, about a 3-4 hour drive to buy tires because his prices are so good.

It's not just wal-mart. This is a common business practice, especially in the auto industry.

I bought some from Wal-mart, then tried to have them rebalanced at a Goodyear store...they will not even look at them or honor a warranty on them, they are special made for Wal-mart.....They were the worst tires I have ever had....

I had Goodyear Wrangler's once and hated them!. The Jeeps I drive for work have them and they are very slippery when wet.

I had a set of F1's on my 01 T/A that came on it from the factory. I didnt even get 12000 miles on it before they were shot. They werent abused either, My BFG's now have 30000 on them and oh yeah they have had some punishment:hm: and they arent even to the wear bars yet, Almost though.:rolleyes:
