Baby moons?
1 Attachment(s)
When it comes to fullsize chevy rally wheels the ones that most of our trucks have, is there anything you can buy (such as a baby moon) that you can remove that center cap and cover up the lugnuts and that center circle with a baby moon? I've been told no, but dont see why. heres a pic of the look im going for, these wheels were actually bought from american racing, but i'd like to do it cheaper. Thanks for any help

Re: Baby moons?
There's nothing on the ralleys for the moon cap, (or any other type cap) too grab onto. It's a smooth ridge around the outer edge of where the lugs are. That's why......Only other idea, would be to get ahold of a set of regular steel rims and your moons will go on those along with the beauty rings...

Re: Baby moons?
Well yes and no. As stated above there is nothing to attach to unless you fab something up.
You could fab up one that could work. Get a baby moon tack weld a bolt on it. Then get a center cap, drill a hole the size of the bolt in the center and Weld if metal/ JB Weld if plastic a nut to it. The you turn the baby moon on the nut until you have it secure. Kind of like the old fake knock offs attached. Just make sure you do not use a too long screw because you want a tight fit. You might have to trim the metal around the bottom (base) of the baby moon to get it to look exactly right because they pop in like hub caps. But that should be real easy with a cut off wheel on a angle grinder. |
Re: Baby moons?
Okay, you ever go to a tire shop and see those big posters with about a thousand different types of wheel posted up on the wall? I *know* I have seen a couple that had photos of rally repros which had baby moon centers as an option, as well as the typical rally caps.
I don't know the manufacturer to save my life, unfortunately. Anyway, these people could well sell you a set of what you're looking for to fit on a set of stock rallys. I did notice on a web page that American Racing was selling a set of "smoothie" wheels which had the center mounted *inside* the wheel hub rather than *outside.* Maybe those centers would fit stock rallys? May want to call them and ask. |
Re: Baby moons?
I have not seen a flat cap for the later model ralleys but if you use a 5 slot ralley like the old corvette, camaro etc. then they do make a flat cap. I have seen them advertised as police package caps.

Re: Baby moons?
Check Wheel Vintiques, they make the car-type rallyes in truck bolt pattern. They offer a few early Chevy car caps in a design that mounts to the rallye center,like`52,`56,and,`59.They also offer a baby moon.Coker Tire is a big Wheel Vintiques dealer in the east,Chattanooga.

how about these, Vintage Wheel truck rallys with police centers (they also make smooth or moon centers)

Re: Baby moons?
jooooooe. Now that is looking good. Looks like 10" wide front and rear with what size BFG's? I have been pondering these vette type rallys with some sort of cap different than the big derby or small disc brake center caps. That flat cap is different. MiniMoon would be way better though.

Re: Baby moons?
those are 235/70's, they have to be inflated with a bead blaster.

Re: Baby moons?
Wow, lot to take in. I like the idea of fabricating one Primered_69, but what do you mean by a center cap? The one on it with the bowtie in the middle looks like the moon would hit it? jooooooe, i like your truck, im gonna go with 275 60's though i like them wide. Werewolf, i have seen a smoothie wheel being sold but don't want to spend the money, my idea is to have some good looking wheels for next to nothing, nearly impossible but doable. Special-k i'll check them out and see what the prices are. Thanks a lot everybody

Re: Baby moons?
Maybe get a center cap like those cheap universal mag ones/ If needed you could cut it down and weld a new top on that is lower
