700R4 Bolted to a 1969 350 motor?

This is my first post.....I have just purchased my 1969 Chevy stepside shortbed. 6 Cyl with a 3 on the tree. I want to lose the 6 and go with a 1969 vintage 350 engine. I would also like to add a 700R4 transmission. My neighbor has a 1993 700R4 out of his 4.3 blazer( for $50). What kind of road blocks and surprizes should I expect. What is the lock up converter I have been reading about? Lots of questions.......I need hellllllllllp. Mike:crazy:

well first off welcome to the board. Well you can put it in but there are a few things.
1. you will need a auto trans crossmember, off of any 1/2 or 3/4 ton 2wd 67-72.

2. your drive shaft will need to be shortened.

3. Lock up converter is more like a clutch. when it is engaged the engine and trans are esentially conected like a clutch. An yes you need it or kiss the 700r4 bye bye.

4. here are some links to help you:

Try to find one a little older. I think the '93 shifts from computer control only, no detent cable. Also I don't think it has a place for speedo cable. Both of these things can be adapted but it's gonna cost more money.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I think that with a 700R4 transmission on a V6 motor, it has a slight difference in the bolt pattern.

I am looking into doing this same thing and was cautioned on this. I would measure the bolt pattern prior to purchase.
