Rally Center Caps ?

I bought a set of Rally center caps off Ebay ,the seller claimed they were nos .
I received them today and opened up the box to find plastic caps.

My question is ,did GM ever make plastic caps or am I being scamed with plastic repop caps?

I'm feeling mad and disapointed ,as I paid good money for what I thought were the metal nos caps.

The 88 and up ralley center caps are plastic. They just snap on over the lug nuts rather than bolting on like the 73 to 87 caps. Is that what you received?

No ,I received the 73 to 87 caps that bolt on ,
but they are plastic.

That sucks. Pickmup had a true NOS set for sale for $100 + $20 s/h. Might want to see if you can return those plastic crap things and buy his instead?

I was out in the shop looking thru some of my ralleys and i came up with a plastic center cap , it's real old and weathered , don't know where it came from but it looks factory , has this number cast in # 469663 . The weird thing is it's held on to the wheel by 3 slotted screws instead of the 3 self tapping bolts. So maybe the factory did use plastic caps . Vans maybe ?
It may be cheaper to re - run them on ebay ? Either way you're out a little $$$.
Doug :)

re1, I bought a set of rally tophats (I think that is what they are called) and found out that there is a difference in size from 5 lug to 6 lug wheels. The set I have are in great shape but dont fit my 6 lug wheel so if these are the kind your looking for let me know. That is if you have 5 lug wheels. They are not perfect but they are in great condition for 40 year old hubcaps. If your interested I can send you some pictures.

the NOS thing has got out of hand on a lot of part's , I'll tell you something else to look for and makes up 90% of the NOS part's for sale right now and that is the part's GM had made up in the 1980's , for a long time all they way up to 1987 or so you could walk in chevrolet dealer and get new GM part's such as fender's 1/4 panel's rocker panels and all , the problem is and most people did not know and still don't is that those 80's rerun's are not the same qaulity or gauge as the original part's were , it's easy to spot them also the part number label has a (GULP) bar code on it ,
I searched for month's and had the money to buy a set of NOS front fender's for my 1967 camaro but all I found was the 1980's one's with 1960's prices , I ended up getting a used one and fixing the original on the other side , my point is NOS IS RARE AND HARD TO FIND !!!!!!! AND HIGH$$$$$$$$$ when you do find it , hope you get you'r money back on the cap's ,,,
