Noisy Alternator

While I was checking out the motor mount I noticed that my alternator was making some louder than normal clicky noises. Is this normal?

Thanks

Re: Noisy Alternator

Alternators are really not clicky noise kind of things. They will have a real small amount of noise that comes from the electrical field being genreated, but if it is clicking, there is a small chance of something being caught in it, or a diode wire being broken. Then again maybe a bearing getting dry and worn. There is a decision pathway here, "Run to Failure", or "Replace Now", or the final one, "Tear it apart and find the trouble".

Many will go with the run to failure, but that could happen on the one day you need it most.

After reading your reply and thinking about it I believe that could be a bearing going out. Looks like its time to get the 94 amp alternator installed :)
