68 Burb, 58000 miles, Need Help WIW?
 

Came across a 68 Burb Today with a little over 58000 original miles, Was a 2 owner truck. Last owner bought it in 72 & drove around on his Farm until his death in the early 80's. It has been stored in a barn until now, Appears to be a 283, 2 barrel, 3 on tree & not much else.

Went to look at Today & am undecided as to worth, The motor will turn over but no fire, The guy where it's at is trying to help the Farmer's wife out by selling it for her. I just need some help with a Value???

hello i think in 1967 the commin eng was the 327 in 1965 was the last of the 283 engines but could be wrong it looks like it was a really sriped down modal with the delete radio package and all and no power anything and the only thing it had going for it was the V8 opaion from other then that it has massive cancer it looked to have a good front end with a few dents but from other then that all i can say is it would be a cool first time car or truck for a kid in a auto shop program or a collage that dose a lot of welding and body work this truck would be a good canadate for it what ever you do don't let some one junk it it still has good life in it the roof on this truck is quit hard to find in that good of condion so all i can say is when wintor brake is over go to a few high schools that has a auto body class or ever a shop class and take your pics there and see if you can sell it i would say 600.00 to 1200.00 becouse the roof is the hardest part to redo the bottom part they now make panles now for it and there some what cheep mabey all panles to put that tuck back to gather mabey $600-$800 for all the floors rocker panlesand so on in calif ones like that are hard to find with a good roof and doors so hope i've help in some ways

500 tops. Too much rot, but if you get it running will be cool to tool around in! Remember it probably needs brakes and tires and other unforseen stuff.

Thanks for the responce, Actually the floorpans are in good shape along with mtgs. Looks to only need outer body patch panels, I think if i can get it for $ 500.00 it would be a Good deal...............

1967 was the last year for 283 as far as any reference books go. In 1968 it could be a 307 or 327 either one. I have had both. $500, sounds like a deal to me and good luck with it if you get it.

In 1966 I Have A Custum Big Window With The 327 In It So I Thought With New Body Ment New Eng Accorss The Bord But You Know Gm If They Had A Lot Of The 283 Still On The Floor And You Wanted A Striped Down Modal With A V8 I Can See The 283 Being In There And The Auto Matic Wasa Extra Cus Most Strip Down Modals Had 3 On The Tree Which This One Has

Man that thing has had some abuse weather wise and owner wise. Personally I think 500 bucks is more than I would spend. There are still deals out there to be had with these old trucks, so unless you have been searching high and low and this is all you can come up with I would pass on it. Of course thats just my opinion, take it for the .02 cents its worth =)

$500 would be a nice price if it only takes you a few hundred to get it back on the road, I would then Ebay it and start the bids at what you have in it....

You may have a 327 in your 66 truck but if it's in there it was a ordered truck. Up until the 68 model year the 283 was the standard V-8 or 250-I-6 in most all base cars and trucks. I bought a new 67 Impala 2dr HT with a 283 automatic and it was not a stripped down model. I know you're new and want to help. But please do some research and get your facts straight.

My dads '67 came with a 283 and my '68 came with a 327. I would say no more than $1200.00.

Thanks for the Input, I Bought the Truck for $600.00. That was as low as he would go, Have no immediate plans for it other than try to get it Running. I feel That was a fair deal for a unmolested original with that low of miles, Will keep u posted as to what plans end up being. Right now my Priority is to get the Wrecker going & Then my 67 Stepside.....................

Board member Wes sells patch panels made specifically for burbs and panels...trucks are a little different but I have heard of people making em work. I bought a bunch of patch panels for my 69 panel from him. Here a link to his website.

What makes you say this has only 50xxx miles on it?
The odometer only goes 5 digits, right?
It just looks like a lot of road rash and cancer for that low of miles.

Man that panel looks brand new next to my 37xxx orig mile 2wd Blazer.
It sat in the same spot scence 1977 til 2002,there's really nothing to save.
It's a real shame. I got it for the suspension.

Wow, I am a newbie myself and only have thirty years experience. I wish I would have been old enough to walk around the lots in the 60's and have all the info first hand.

I think Chevrolet also offered a 350 in the 1967 Camaro SS 350. I think Chevrolet also offered a V8 in 1917 and 1918 also.

I have been watching this site since 1999 and I am always learning.

The 327 was a optional engine in 1966. It was painted grey and came with a TH400. I bought it new. The 283 came with PG

Read it again, I think that's what I said. Now what are you talking about a gray 327. Factory? You could order any transmission behind any engine that was offered. I was talking base model that you found on dealership lot.

Managed to get the Burb running Today, Motor started right up with a fresh battery, oil & plugs............

Rear brakes are froze up & need some attention, Clutch seemed fine as best i can tell.........................

i got one more in 1966 i've seen the 396 in 2 chevys a 1966 1/2 ton and a 1966 3/4 ton must of been specail order but dose the 366 eng have the same valve covers as the 396

You are right about Basic, No lighter or Radio. The only option shown on the glove box door is 373 Positrac rear end......................:)

The 366 & 396 have the same valve covers, but the 366 is a medium & heavy duty truck engine(C-40 or heavier), not a pickup truck engine.

Rick, did you check if the 'Burb is a Calif. truck? It has an A.I.R. pump. Never seen one on a truck that old before.
