What would I need?

Since I basically have the entire front clip off of the truck I was thinking that I would pull the motor to do a few things. I have a new flex plate & motor mounts for it as well and would like to clean up the engine bay as well as the firewall. I dont have anyone around to help me so I was thinking about renting a cherry picker and going to town. Is there anything else that I might need?

Thanks

Possible an engine stand...to bolt it to to work on it.

Couldnt it stay on the cherry picker? Its only going to be out of the truck for the amount of time it takes to change the flexplate, clean the engine bay, and repaint the engine.

Count on those tasks taking twice as long as you think. Something will break, or you will find a couple other things that need to be fixed.
I would get a couple blocks and an old tire and set the engine on that, I wouldn't release all of the weight, but use it as a safety in case something happens and the cherry picker drops them.

Why not just spend a little and buy a actual engine lift, never know when you will need it again.I use mine alot

I thought about buying one but I have no place to put one. Barely have enough room for the tools :)

well you can't change the flywheel on the cherry picker or an engine stand you'll need to drop it down on a tire or some blocks or something to keep it still might set it on a tire to hold it in place but keep some tension on it so it won't turn over those flywheel bolts can be quite tricky

You don't want to work on the engine while it's hanging in the air by a cherry picker. You'll have a hell of a time trying to torque anything down to your engine or take anything off because it will just keep moving around on you. At the very least set it on a tire. Oh and in case you don't have some, grab some 2 inch 3/8's bolts and some washers to attach the chain to the block. If you're like me then once that engine comes out you're gonna go crazy and want to do all kinds of other stuff so I hope you have your mind made up that you're gonna do just what you say and nothing else cuz you might be opening up a can of worms. :dohh:

I can get a couple of tires. I did forget about the swinging around piece. Now I gotta find a rental place around here that rents the cherry pickers. Thanks for all the tips.
