Rag Joint DISK replacement questions!
I need to replace the disk on my rag joint but it looks like it has two studs that do not come off that hold the disk to the Box end of the coupler. Do you just grind off the rivit head, replace the disk and weld the ends of the rivit back on? Or am I missing it completly?

there's 2 studs, and 2 bolts. it's easier to unbolt the gearbox and lower it and then slide the whole rag joint (coupler) off the splines. you can't replace just the disc.

Re: Rag Joint DISK replacement questions!
The rebuild kits at auto parts stores have replacement parts for the studs, or you can weld the old ones back in. I figured welding would burn the rag joint, so I used the parts in the kit...

That would be it! I posted my question before I left for the parts store so I would have an answer when I got back. Once I got the kit I was able to see right away that I was a bit early on asking my question but it seems people don't know about this kit so it was a good thing after all. Thanks for the help.
Very quick and simple, grind off the head of the rivit, punch it out and rebuild the joint with the kit $7.69:metal: Kevin LFD Inc. |
Re: Rag Joint DISK replacement questions!

Re: Rag Joint DISK replacement questions!
make sure you get the ground strap piece of metal thats on there or electricity will find the least path to resistance just alittle insight from one who left it off.
