Re: 700r4 lock up

i would contact the company and find out where the sensor plugs in and whether it locks in 3rd or 4th. Looks like a good idea.

Re: 700r4 lock up

I've used that kit before. It uses the 4th gear pressure port on the outside of the transmission. It works very well for locking up the transmission, but the HUGE problem with the kit is that it does not unlock it when you apply the brakes (say, in a sudden stop.)

Some peckerhead pulled out in front of me a few years ago in Clemson and I had to hit the brakes hard. I missed the punk, but the hard stop from 50mph with the converter locked caused the truck to stall, with the power brakes dead it then took forever for the truck to come to a complete stop.

I now have a BTO kit with the brake switch. Very nice.

Goodguytrucks: If you edit your post and put a space between the words link & http: it should make the link clickable. No flame, just a suggestion.....:)

This is the kit I ordered:

http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...AT&CATID=OA1A3

And for this reason:

Quote:

This kit taps into your vehicles existing brake light circuit to disable converter clutch lock up whenever the brakes are applied. This built-in safety feature prevents stalling the engine at highway speeds if you should skid the rear tires while in lock up!
Which is exactly what happened to me with the other kit.

I've been checking these kits out and it seems BTO doesn't use a vaccum switch like painless. So if the truck is under a load in 4th, with the painless kit it will unlock the TC and allow the motor the catch up. Is this inaccurate about the BTO kit?

Has anyone used the TCI 376600 lockup controller?

No, mine will unlock under load, and depending on how much load it will also downshift to 3rd.

Which mechanism does the BTO kit use to unlock unload in 4th gear?

Re: 700r4 lock up

A pressure switch that goes into the 4th gear port. When the load increases, so does the line pressure, so if there is enough pressure change it will unlock, if there is a lot of change, it will shift to third. That is my understanding of how it works.

Re: 700r4 lock up

the painlesskit unlocks automatically when you leave 4th gear. i think its the solenoid that only does the 4th gear lockup. that combined with a negative 4th gear pressure switch. you'd have to email painless wiring for how. i just know it works sweet.
