Rare find
3 Attachment(s)
I picked up a 69 CST-10 396 truck yesterday, and among all the options that are on it, the one I have never seen is stainless drip rail moldings. I have 9 of these trucks now, and have had over a dozen more and I have never seen that option. The truck also has rear leafs, ps, pb, TH400, bucket seats, cargo light, maroon deluxe interior stainless, trimmed pedals. I thought I'd share a few pics of it.

Re: Rare find
is it on the glovebox sheet or is it possibly something a crafty PO did? Either way, i kinda like it.

Re: Rare find
Well, they do sell the stainless drip moldings....FWIW.....
Interesting truck |
Re: Rare find
The Stainless drip rail molding was a dealer installed option, if I remember correctly ... not from the factory.

Mine had them when I got them, I just assumed they were a factory option as well. I know I have several people ask me where I got them, but they were allready there. I know they have been of for quite some time because the pop rivets were rusty and aged when I got the truck so i had to clean the rivets up.

Re: Rare find
69 model and some 70 models were optioned with these, but were discontinued because they would not stay on the trucks. It was common practice from what I was told, to pop rivet these in place becuse they came off so easily from the factory interference fit that held them in place originally. The ones that are available currently from the aftermarket are just as big a pain as the original ones and most people actually grind down the clips and epoxy them in place to avoid the pop rivets. I have only seen 1 set of original one and they were off of the truck already but they had several pop rivet holes in them. Cool option but IMO not worth the hassel.

Re: Rare find
I have seen the stainless mouldings in the factory assembly manual; and on the page it's on, it is marked "discontinued" I believe. Maybe it was a very short lived option, I don't think I've seen one before either. Interesting, thanks for sharing

Re: Rare find
My 72 has them, and I am 95% sure I saw them on the option sheet too...
I'll have to check on that. |
Re: Rare find
I've seen one set on a 69 and they had the rivets. Still undecided if I like them or not.
Ted, why are you beating a dead horse? |
Re: Rare find
LMC has them. Check their catalog CB.44 page 35.

Re: Rare find
Cool truck. Looks kind of familiar too...

Re: Rare find
I have a set I never installed.They weren`t an option in themselves,I don`t believe.If I saw them listed on a VIN-spec sheet,that would change my mind.Not sure,if they were factory/not accessory,what made them included on the truck.

Re: Rare find
Came on 69-70 as option on CST only. I've had 2 of them with them, both bought from original owners. My dad bought one new with them. Good dealers glued them on when they came off (why GM discontinued them).

I have been very busy with my business lately, and I haven't had the time to play on the computer that I did before. Now when I'm on it, I'm usually working!:( It hasn't stopped my passion for 67-72 Chevy's though. I've added a 72 SWB Fleetside Cheyenne, a 71 SWB stepside, a 69 SWB Fleetside, 67 SWB stepside, and a '69 GMC 3500 1 ton dump along with this '69 CST to my collection over the last 6 months. I've post some pics of them in day or two. |
