Which way is best or easiest when installing?

I am putting the engine back in the truck after replacing all freeze plugs. I left the trans in place. I want to either attach the torque converter back to the flexplate OR slip it over the trans spline, then put the engine in and try to match it up and re-bolt to flexplate. WHICH way is best in your experience?

Always put the torque converter in the trans first. Make sure you get it all the way in or you could damage the pump in the transmission. Then drop in the engine & bolt it up!

I would loosen up the tranny mount and stab it, bolt the converter to the flex plate once it is stabbed and then bolt everything back up. I've never done the "I want to either attach the torque converter back to the flexplate"
I don't know if that would be any easier or not. If you pull the TC and bolt to the flex plate and go to stab it you are gonna dump tranny fluid out all over the place.

:agree: It's way too easy to damage the pump. It's also best to never leave the TC bolted to the flex plane when seperating a motor/trans, unbolt the converter first :D

Yup! My Dad bought a truck with the motor locked up and could not get the torque converter to spin to remove so he pulled the motor with the converter attached and guess what happened, damaged front pump!! Then his stubborn arse, he decides to put the motor back in with out moving the tranny back and guess what happened again!!!! Good thing I was working for Chevrolet then so our Trans Specialist helped me out but said that was the last time!!!!!!!!
